Stumbled across this thing, thinking its a 74 and havn't got to look it over well plan to meet the owner this weekend check it out. Just wondering what it is worth and what would I be getting into. I know it doesn't have a engine and looks like some crazy home made top. Any help would be great.
Thanks.

That is a rough puppy. $ 500.00 with a matching title.

What are you looking for out of it, full on restoration, rat rod, patina monster?

Wowza... that looks like quite a project. I agree with the $500. I wouldn't go over that and I'm not even sure I would pay that much. How is the interior? Judging by the air intake it is a 74. It looks like an Acapulco edition which tend to be worth more but in that condition I'm not sure. The top looks like they tried to custom make a hard top in the shape of an Acapulco soft top or maybe they molded a hard top over a soft top frame.

Found this in the gallary...

I doubt its that edition the paint look it was put over the white. I'm not sure I want to even screw with it. If I did get it I would just try to sell it make 100 bucks and maybe save a VW unless I get there and its alot better than it looks. I don't need another body off or major project right now, but do have spare engine laying around for something fun. Guess I'll get more pictures of it when I go this weekend.

Side note no title for it Alabama doesn't require it if its more than 35 years old. Guy is asking 750 way to much for it, but said he was just going to crush it. So I know that its only worth about 200 bucks at the scrappers tops. So thinking of offering 250 or so.

If it is not worth restoring, strip the parts and turn some coin. Spindles and trailing arms are worth pulling before going to a crusher.

Sure, it looks rough, but surely it's restorable. Look at those solid rockers. I wouldn't crush that! Shocked It's a Acapulco. Its worth $500 All day long... if it was closer, I'd buy it in a hear beat.

What makes it a Acapulco? I know the interior is supossed to be blue striped but the paint looks like something someone painted.

Acapulcos have white fenders, bumper overriders, blue bumpers not black, quarter panels has blue paint too high for an alcapulco

It's worth $750 but you should get him down to $500. Evaluate it when you get it home and decide if its worth it to you to rebuild or not, the rear clip looks good, which people are always looking for, the rockers look much better than mine were before I repaired the rotted spots.

Personally, if it were in my area, I'd buy it... maybe even for 750?

Ok planning on going Tomorrow with a tow bar and 5 spare rims with tires to drag it home if we can get it at the right price. What size are the axle nuts and spindle nuts? Making sure I have all the stuff to unstick the brakes.

This one now resides in Georgia!

Put good wheels/tires on it, backed off all brake adjusters and she rolled great 130 miles home.

Hood cable was broken and hood hadn't been opened in several years. I was hoping to find some interesting treasures, but alas, all I found was 3 - 5 gallon buckets full of stuff only a critter would want! Millions of walnuts, acorns and who knows. There was a nest on the upper left corner of the gas tank and it had rusted about a 8" square chunk out of it!

Pans are shot, left rocker needs help and the bottom of the front nose is bad as well. Fenders can be salvaged, 3 doors are fine, 1 door is dented pretty bad. Beam, frame head and all suspension looks real good.

That top is crazy! Looks like a George Barris attempt. Made of square tube and galvanized sheet held by about 3 million pop-rivets! If anybody wants it, speak up!

Best part, I got it for $400, and found $16.66 in change in the ashtray!

Gonna be a fun build.
