Don't scare Tom away - he's just gettin his feet westy.

Tom, there are always some initial items to fix as you learn your new ride, once you get those squared away - there are always more!

That's sorta why these tweakmobiles are fun - we're here for ya buddy!

Let one of us know what your probs are, and we'll tell ya the best shop to fix 'em.

Also, you can always hang with any of us anywhere in the world if you're passing through.

See you at Syncro-De-Mayo !

I've been told Terry Hatcher drives a Westy, too.

I doubt any of us would start watching Desparate Housewives, though.

I think he meant that most of the Vanagon nuts are from the 70's
Like Jimmy Buffett who has a syncro with a Subaru 3.0H6

I think his syncro did not work out for him and he now has a ford Sportsmobile 4x4 diesel

A rare dementia indeed. Tom Hank's brother Jim (and traveling partner for that trip) is my girlfriends uncle by marriage- I am super interested to find out where the Syncro came from..will investigate.

See what you can find out. Would be cool to see some pictures of Tom's decked out Orly Blue Syncro in action !

He mentioned it had no AC. I would guess it had no "Working" AC...

Seems odd if GoWesty did the megga build up they would skip doing the AC upgrade?

Not sure if it's been said yet, and with all due respect to Mr. Hanks, (I think he's pretty cool), IMO, once you see past the HollyWoodesque Hyperbole in his story........

He's in love. You can tell.

Has the price of Syncro Westys gone up yet? Wink

Neil.

"He's in love. You can tell."

Good point, and his story would not have had nearly as much appeal if he'd been telling about a trip in a new (insert name of modern reliable interchangeable) van. It would have been just another vacation story instead of a comic tale of harrowing adventure.

Has anyone found the rest of the Hanks interview online? I can't find anything that goes past "...we were heading West out of Salt Lake City." I'm sure he had some more photos to show.

He only showed 3 pictures- one of himself in the mirror in death valley, one of the van on side of the road at bonneville, and the last was of the tow truck driver, mechanic that got the funnel out of gas tank and a wife unit. There weren't any clear pictures of the van- not enough to get color or look for the patented GoWesty lower van rhino liner treatment.

Maybe if Céline Marie Claudette Dion bought a westy it would be more interesting?

Im starting a rumor

Jennifer Lopez bought a Syncro Westy and named it Lola

Jennifer said she thinks Lola is hot, I told her I think she is too.

Jennifer said she thinks she needs a shower, I told her I think I do too.

Jennifer told me she knows Tom Hanks, I told her I dont care about Him, I really like Lola better.

here is a picture of jLo about to go camping in her syncro:

Just for the record - Jimmy Buffett still owns his seafoam Syncro Adventurewagen which is outfitted with a Smallcar Subie Outback 3.0 conversion. It has its hiccups, but has generally run well. Though we can't for the life of us figure out where Brian and his boys put the OBD dataport and they don't seem to recall where it may be. He also owns a veggie powered Sportsmobile. The Syncro resides with a good buddy of his who takes good care of it and uses it well and wisely. The SMB gets used a hell of a lot - runs a plantdrive system.
