A few updates.
Rear bumper mounted with hidden trailer hitch.
Engine lid was borrowed from another project car.
Only exhaust visible is the small pea shooter to right of hitch. Patina-ed pea shooter is from a 74 SunBug.
It should not give away what is really under the lid.
Rusty swap meet rear apron trimmed and fitted. Fuel lines worked out.
Wires and vacuum lines will be routed on back side of motor next time the engine comes out.
Looks like a rats nest in this pic but it is actually coming together and everything is finding its place.
A view from under the bumper.
Left side with coil mount. Wires snaked up behind spare tire bucket.
Right side with fuel pressure regulator, additional fuse block, battery cut off switch.
Bracket made for the motor electronics to be mounted out of sight inside the spare tire.
Regretfully had to cut a hole in my uncut no-rust bus.
I cut the hole only on the flat area so that reversing the hack can be easily done.
Picked up some body side molding yesterday that will protect the wires from the edge of the cut metal.
View of behind the bumper. I have made a middle splash shield to cover the center section.
A couple of shots of the hitch/bumper mounts. Splash pans fit nicely too.
It is tacked together right now in case I find out I need to move something. The center receiver section is held in by magnet but it is marked for final welding. I had to have the motor back in to make sure the headers cleared the receiver.
Bumper/hitch/splash pans all come off together with four bolts. Well, four major bolts plus the ones that hold the splash to the body corners.
Back side of apron had to be clearenced for the turbo. This area will need insulation. Bottom lip was removed as well because it hit the headers.
Oil filer mounted with existing frame holes - factory bumper mount holes.
Oil filter mount. Upside down in pic.
Oil cooler mounted to bottom of frame in front of trans. No holes made in the bus to mount it there. I used only existing holes for the rear and in the front used a bar similar to a traction bar set up with two small bars over the top of the frame rails. Long bolts hold the to bars to the frame. The cooler bolts to tabs on the cross bars. This was the only place I could think of to mount the cooler on a bus with IRS conversion and belly pans. It really does not hang down that low. But I may put some kind of road kill cattle catcher on the front mount to divert any debris.
Waiting on some more parts to arrive to hook up the breather hoses and clamps to hold oil lines in place. UPS delivered one Summit order and another coming tomorrow. Motor has to come back out to fab up a bracket for the breather box, route breather hoses from back of valve covers through tin, hide all the wires on the bulkhead in front of the motor, and put in a second accelerator cable tube for the cruise control.
I have done more work in other areas of the bus as well. _________________ 61DD W/T Turbo Build

The bumper needs to come back off for full welding. I think I have all that properly fitted and clearing. I can take more pics when I pull it back off. _________________ 61DD W/T Turbo Build

I thought some might like my hitch set up. I have to give credit to Jeremy. He has an ad here for split hitches. I talked to him and he agreed to sell me the bumper mount pieces. He sells the complete hitch but I was not sure it would clear the turbo and wanted to make a custom fit. His design works great. Splash pans and bumper bolt up. Makes it easy to pull hitch and bumper off as one unit. _________________ 61DD W/T Turbo Build
