|
|
A little while back I had the chance to pick up this 55 oval. Back in 2000 a local guy found this in a barn. He was generous to make me copies of the pics he took of it when he found it. Since that time he had disassembled and stored the car.
Here is how he found it
The rats had dragged all the corn in under the hood through the inspection hole behind the spare tire. The car sat in the barn for 30 years. So they had plenty of time to do their work.
It seems that rats eat sleep and poop in the same place. That caused some corrosion under the hood.
Interior as found
The car now cleaned up and waiting its turn in the project rotation.
Vented trim rings.
The “rat” damage, only real rust on the car.

incredible condition compared to the as found pics . PLEASE do NOT paint the car (except for the rats holes... )! old og paint can be sealed with good wax. _________________ Hotrods, Fords, Veedubs and Triumph Twins !

Congrats on a beautiful find. This is the kind of car that still gives me hope of finding one.
Also it makes me think what I would do about paint if it were mine. 99% rust free is an argument to keep og paint, if it is in good condition. After the many Ive had, if it were mine I would polish and wax the majority and spot repair the rat damage and rear apron.
How did you clean the "Bermuda triangle" areas in the quarters?? Is there supposed to be a drain hole in the bottom of the a pillar? What about the smell? Any in the tunnel? |

| The rats only made their way into the trunk area. There is some urine smell there and the cause of the rust. Inside the front corners will need to be treated with one of the popular rust products. But the rust in there seems minimal. Shop vac, air hose to blow debris out, more shop vac. It will be an area that wil lget more attention to insure the integrity of the car. |

You almost loved it a lot more.
For those who don't know, Joey was calling the owner as we were driving away with it on the trailer. |

My own March 55 Oval had been sat in a warehouse for almost 30 years, and yet was in much worse condition than this, a number of bodged repairs had been made to the heater channels prior to it being laid up: this car looks to have a solid floor and channels,so I assume it was well looked after before being taken off the road and will make an excellent base for a restoration. Looking forward to updates.
