That is one large engine compartment. Would love to see the engine door opened photo. From what I could not see it would appear that the gas tank sat above the engine and you had to open the engine door to gas it up. _________________ As they say, "You never know until you ask the question."

damnit, I also remember the days in the early nineties not buying any old split bus because of Dimesized holes in the doglegs or because it was only a Kombi or a highroof....JEEEEEZAS !!! |
Yep, many of us remember those days. Myself all too well. The stuff i passed on makes me wanna jump off a bridge now. _________________ Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude.

Back in the late 80's and early 90's we'd have absolutely no interest whatsoever in any Bus that had the wheel wells cut. That was a pretty harsh standard yet that was exactly how it was. _________________ Please check us out on Instagram at @holygrailgarage

Wheel wells, bulkhead, and sometimes even the radio hole in the dash! |

nicked from Eurobug
"This is a barndoor optional tailgate in all its glory. The colour images are of a tailagte from a '54 Portuguese bus, whilst the black and white images are of an early '52 bus (notice the single reflector). It is interesting to notice that the '52 tailgate has no rear window and has the same inner strengthening as that of the engine lid." |

In fact the caption that goes with that this picture is wrong and that is actually an early 51/50 barndoor (would bet early 51 though) with a very early style and very rare factory opening rear hatch.
Actually i know the picture and its actually a non rear window double door panelvan with opening non rear window early rear hatch so now currently rarer than non existant i think .

Familiar photos to me, my ex 20-083504 and 20-110764
(watch their photos at barndoor.dk)
All portuguese barndoors had that rear hatch and safaris from
mid 1953. So very common here.
