Ouch. Hopefully it wasn't at speed...
Just replace it and move on? How much more damage is there? _________________ '71 Super 'Vert

I was 20 feet down the driveway going about 5 mph. No other damage. I have a set of trailing arms with new lowered ball joints in the garage so I should have it fixed by this afternoon.
I knew the ball joints looked a little sketchy, and since I lowered the car I suspect there was some additional strain on them. I'm just glad they didn't let loose at speed. |

Fixed! I pulled the trailing arms off my 67 project car and swapped out all the broke bits. |

let this be a lesson to you. it could have let go at 65 mph, and killed you and other motorists. if *anything* in the steering or braking systems looks even remotely old, worn out, suspect, etc. do not drive the car - it is not safe! replace the questionable components immediately.
as for your ball joints, if the boot is torn - the joint is trash and needs to be replaced. do not ignore a torn ball joint boot. all the grease leaks out, and dirt and contaminants get in, and it wears itself out very very quickly at that point. |
