...and I want to compare with yours... I have a eurovan GL with auxiliary foglights
do you have this yellow wire?? I don't know if it's in the right pin... do you know its use??
do you know the meaning of the numbers written on the relays?? is there a chart? I want to identify each relay |

I don't believe the yellow wire is factory. Someone most likely needed power for an accessorie. If you look at the ground star in the picture, there is a non factory ground connector as well. Possibly both are related. Your avatar looks familiar, weren't you asking about a draw on the battery? This might be a good place to start. The painted numbers have some meaning, don't know what it is, but you will need the actual part number to know what the relay is for. Someone with a Eurovan may be of more help. _________________ ☮️ |

That yellow wire is definately home grown......VW doesn't do that.
What year is your GL? You will need a pic of the same year to learn anything, since VW seems to like to move things around on these panels over time. _________________ '58 Westy camper-come and gone

ok it seems related to my auxiliary foglights that are on a separate circuit with itsown fuse but use the oem foglights switch... but there was not difference if either I plugged or not plugged it
there a big problem with my headlight switch even if I changed it... for a moment, the headlights are on when I put the key at on and before I start the engine... that gives less power to the starter...
well I don't know if VW headlight switches are all the same but does anyone has the wiring diagram about both headlights and foglight switches???
thanks |

92 EV GL
That relay location with the yellow wire (in your picture) is number 10 -- that is the location for Fog Light Relay -- also a number 53 relay. The configuration above the fixed relay locations (i.e the bottom 2 rows -- locations 1 to 12) can vary with options.
Also, the number on the relay identifies the type of relay -- it does not mean it is dedicated to a unique purpose. For example, #10 Fog Light Relay and # 11 Dual Horn Relay both use #53 relays, and in your picture it also looks like there is a #53 relay (upside down) in location #17.
Hope this helps,

do you know every relay position? you have a relay at position #1 but I dont have and I have a relay at position #6 but we have the same year and model, it's kinda weird... your fuse panel isn't identical to mine...
I want to know all the positions of the relays... I have a draw on my battery and I want to fix the prob asap... btw my relay position #9 isnt there cause the sound is a bit irritating...
why are there 3 positions for the foglight switch??? my fogs are on at any position and I want to fix the problem...
snowsyncro, do you have foglights? do you have the foglight switch?
this is why I really want to know the 2 light switches diagram... |

You're makin' me work!
My relay pos'n 1, relay 13 is A/C.
Your pos'n 2, relay 72 is Rear Window Wiper/Washer
Pos'n 3, relay 30 is Digifant ECM Power Supply relay
Pos'n 4, relay 18 is Load Reduction Relay (turns you headlights etc. off when starting)
Pos'n 6, relay 21 Emergency Flasher
Posn' 8, relay 99., Washer/Wiper Intermittent relay (this is the one the Vanagon guys want to give them progrmmable intermittent wipers)
Pos'n 11, relay 53 Dual Horn relay
Posn'n 12, relay 80 Fuel Pump relay
-------------guessing from here------------------------------
Posn' 14, upside down relay 38, Engine Coolant Pump relay (After-run)
Pos'n 15, can't read but should be 155, Idle Air Control (IAC) Control module relay
Pos'n 16, upside down 53? don't know
Pos'n 17, 150 don't know but 150 was used for Park/Neutral posn on autos.
NOTE: The ones above the fixed relay pos'ns are guesses, the aren't really in the right spot (one to the right) but the numbers agree with Bentley. Those just clip into place, and VW moved them around a lot.
here is an easy way to check for battery drain, doesn't require a current meter. Disconnect your battery negative terminal, then touch the cable terminal to the post. You should see a spark when you tap it -- works better in the dark (i.e anytime after 4pm now -- ha!). Turn off everything that uses power, key off of course. Then remove fuses one-at-a-time and repeat the test. When no spark, that circuit is drawing power.
TIP -- start at the right and pay particular attention to fuse #21 -- that is interior lights, clock, radio, central locking system, B+(battery positive voltage) for OBD
It is normal for the headlights to come on when you turn on the ignition, before you start the engine, but the headlights should go out when you engage the starter -- that is what the load reduction relay does.
I don't have fog lights or the switch. I cannot find a wiring diagram for fog lights, nor is there any mention of a fog light switch in the owner manual. What does the OEM fog light switch look like? Any chance someone just used a second headlight switch?

... I don't have a/c...

... maybe a clue??
TIP -- start at the right and pay particular attention to fuse #21 -- that is interior lights, clock, radio, central locking system, B+(battery positive voltage) for OBD
...I ever invert polarity on my battery and the only fuse that burnt was the #21... but the clock is always on...
It is normal for the headlights to come on when you turn on the ignition, before you start the engine, but the headlights should go out when you engage the starter -- that is what the load reduction relay does.
... well the lights were never on before... that's why the relay is the suspect...

... maybe, the #10 fuse is for foglights... I think that the fuse is connected to the relay #10 and that's all... you have to wire by yourself... the last owner installed custom foglights in a separate circuit with its own fuse with a switch that looks original... 5 wires connected to that switch... 2 black 2 green 1 orange... this is why I dont understand the use of the yellow wire... I'll take a pic of the switch..

why it is famous? Becasue difficult to find in the states? In Europe it is quite popular, in T4 of course ( T4 = Eurovan ) _________________ Pawel

The DOT has eased up on some lighting restrictions. Fog lights and running lights used to be illegal. I have been stopped for having running lights on before. _________________ ☮️ |

EV front and rear foglights aren't available in America... some models have only the rear foglights casing (used as reflectives) and some have nothing as my '92... but when you look at the back of the casing, you can clearly see the circle that you have to cut to put a socket in the hole...
so YOGIVW could you tell me what are the 3 positions of the fog switch beause mine is defective... and I want to know the 5 wires connected
and btw, where can I order T4 foglights??? _________________ '92 €van GL 2.5 with electrical problems |

Disconnect the Alternator. I realize it is new, but it could have a bad diode. _________________ ☮️ |

First position of course is OFF , next is front fog lights ON and the next position is front and rear fog lights are ON. If you have a problem with connecting the wires let me know, I will pull my switch and will take a picture.
Do you want the fog lights original used or might be a new repro ( cheap ) ? Do you also need a switch? Send me PM _________________ Pawel

thank you... I see that there is only 4 wires... I suppose this is how it is:
a 12V+ wire
another wire for the front foglights
another wire for the rear foglights
and a ground wire for the little orange light (maybe a led) in the switch
ok that helps me a lot...
now my headlight switch doesnt work properly and there is only 2 positions
how is it suppose to work???
I want to fix the problem and I think its no possible to have only the corners on...
what switch is it suppose to be next to the headlight switch?? there is so many configurations possible... _________________ '92 €van GL 2.5 with electrical problems |
