Motor is backup and running again.
After bringing down the engine he noticed everything was loose and not tightened properly.
1st off the intake gaskets we had used were the paper kind and he said only the metal kind should be used, but aside from that it turned out to be a bad carb. he washed it more than once and couldn't get it to work after everything was put back together.
Problems in no specific order:
1. Carb was bad. Washed 3 times left in acid and still not working properly.
2.Dizzy retard would work intermittently
3. Clutch pressure plate collar was broken (causing noise we heard)
4 Alternator had play(squeeling noise we would hear intermittently)
What I bought to remedy solution:
-Piston rings,
-intake boots and runner gaskets
-Engine gasket kit for the metal runner gaskets.
-Solex carb he sold me used. Its a smaller one and has an adapter plate on it. I'll check it later to see the model
-Left dizzy there with retard port disconnected like you guys told me.
-Used good shape alternator he had there.
-Engine paint
-Clucth kit
After he measured everything internally he said it was good and almost brand new. He cleaned and went through the heads said they looked new too, but he took everything apart and got it back to spec.
Installed everything calibrated everything and got it to work good.
He also said the short block looked good. Seems like someone just bought the short block and put the rest back together but didn't tighten everything to spec so everything on it was loose. He showed me everything while the engine was apart and everything looked good. He told me since he took the engine a part it was best to just replace the rings too.
When I drive it, Its a world of a difference and I mean a world of a difference. Doesn't hesitate, goes when I want it and doesnt 'bog down at all. Getting on the freeway was a breeze. It has soooOOoo much more power than before. Im definatly happy.
Good thing he also said, anytime an engine on these starts messing up to take it apart and inspect, measure and find what needs to be replaced as most parts you buy new now its give or take and can fail more than the original parts.
Thanks again to all your help, you guys were right the whole time and he did a lot of things you guys told me to do on his own without me telling him anything.
I have to go back to him so he can recalibrate valves as he said that we have to do this a couple times till they set properly.
Also told me not to go above 65 so the rings can set properly.
Thanks again to you all for helping me out. |
