There is a small reinforcement plate under the outriggers that I had to drill off the old ones, media blast, weld through primer, then spot weld on to the outrigger. I have had a spot welder for years, but never used it for much, but it worked great here.

There is a number on the top of the front tranny mount holder on the chassis. It is not the same as the number on the drivers side out rigger. Anyone know what that is? Just a casting number?

I spent an entire 3 hours just fitting up one of the outriggers from Wolfsburgwest tonight. I lot of hammering, fitting, measuring, hammer, test fit, check with the floorpan, etc. The put the fork yoke cover on and see if it interferes, etc. etc. Classic case of you just have to stick with it until it is perfect.

Are you planning on replacing that square weld nut with the correct style?

Do you seriously ask?
Why donīt you surprise yourself and crawl under the car with a torch someday and check it out?
To me in such a invisible place it would not matter.

Carsten, a nut is easy to replace at this stage and only a minor thing to do.
i tend to agree its just "a nut" but if a correct one is available, why not.

A weld nut , letīs say in the trunk, wich you see later.
Sure, OK, that should "look right".
But at that place it will maybe never be seen again.

It's OK, I value this kind of detail discussion. I will likely never do this level of restoration again. I did just compare the original outrigger to the repro one and the nut is the square, not the round. I will probably get the repro round ones from Mika and weld them in....

I was not being a wise ass. I was just pointing out a detail that he might want to address. Considering he just spend all of that time on that little reinforcement plate that "no one will ever see" I though he would like to know now rather then when the pan is finished. John is a detail nut after all. Just trying to help.

Not to take away from Mika, but you can get those weld nuts from WW.

Well then it's important to point out that Mika's are M8 and have TWO bumps (for pre 49 cars?) and the WW ones have 4 bumps.

The originals on my '51 outriggers are definitely 2 spot welds. But they don't have the locating bumps on the backside. Since I can get them quickest, I will probably just get the WW ones. I'll grind the bumps off, MIG fill the dimples in the back, then spot weld them on with 2 welds like the originals.

You say '54 was the last year the floor pans were the same pressing as splits, I thought '55 was.
