Hello guys
I have a type 3 panell van that my grandfather bought new in 1965.
The car has a great story behind it, bu I just wanted to introduce myself.
I am from croatia and the car was bought in Germany.
My grandfather used is daily up to 1990 and then he passed away. It is sitting in my garage since.
In 1967 the panels were removed and later on lost.
I bought the rear two couple of years ago from Peru and I bought the other two repro but they do not look very good in my opinion.
I am working on an oil rig and I will be home at the end of the month and then I will be able to post some photos and data for all off you.
I was really injoying this topic and the pictures that all of you posted here.
I do not remember the little number beeing on the front of the car and I can't wait to get home to look for that.
I know my grand dad had a front crash with another car but my father asures me the car was just straightened up and nothing was changed.
My father used the car sometimes and we traveled all across the europe with it.
Regards to you all.

Marin, I'm surprised that you think the repops don't look good? I think they look great on my car.
|
There are some new repops on the way by type3headquarter.de , which get pretty close to the original. I saw a prototype at the "1. of may meeting" in Hannover. Very impressive indeed... |
here's a link for what you are loking for
http://wagen-werk-restoration.blogspot.com/2013/01/type-3-panel-van-panel-window.html |
As I said, it is all down to taste and preference. Some like the mother, others prefer the daughter.
I am sure the panels are excellent value for money. And they sure look cool on a custom panelvan and others. But if I was planing on getting an org panelvan closer to its original state, I personally would not choose repops with too much personal touch . And it sounded to me as if Marin wants to do just that with his van. And that is why I said, that I can see why he thinks they donīt look right. Well and I mentioned that I came across some repops that might look the part on an org van. Nothing more, nothing less. No harm done.
Hmm, repops rarely kill the value of originals, at least I donīt think I have ever experienced it. They usually just get close or even very close to the original, but rarely ever 100% and they never get the allure of rare original stuff anyway. So why not get them to look as close to the original as possible for those who want them like that? Sure there is a market for both kinds - personalized and orglooker panels. Like you said it, all is good |
No Problem
I did got a PM from Marin
and I realize what he was trying to say did NOT match
but on the post sounds in different way
and mention his english was not that good
GOOD thing he got from me the SOLID PANELS (middle)
because he already had the REAR Originals louvers Panels from Peru
and I did offer to send the SOLID Panels back but he wants to keep them
and he is OK with them
Im happy to know with just a little minor work on them
that will complete his set
Marin is ALL GOOD
God Bless to ALL _________________ 68 T34 1600 Automatic

The seatback slides there, rests at the bottom and that wear is normal. _________________ https://imgur.com/user/FisherSquareback/posts

I just got in to this thread after reading about another norwegians squareback that had its 50 year birthday! And it was supposed to have been a panelvan from the begining!
So after looking on pictures here I started to think that mabye mine -69 squareback too have been a panel van from the start? Mange, the Norwegian type 3 guru, said earlier this summer that it may have been that, and I didnt think so much more about it!
The sidepanels are like many other panelvans in this thread!
So I had to take pictures of the ID-tags when i was in the garage this evening!
its says Typ 36-265
other tag says : 4-1-3734

Spotted this pic in here while searching for info on white walls. Pretty cool shot of a couple panel vans from back in the day. Sorry if it's been posted before.
