| alright, i discovered a new sound the other day near my left rear wheel. minor metal on metal rubbing on a certain spot on the wheel rotation. no problem i thought, i went and spent my 50 bucks on inner and outer wheel bearings, tore it all apart, put the new bearings in , bled the brakes and test drove. same damn noise. it will not do it if i turn left though. takes the pressure off it. i repacked the cv joints a couple of months ago and they seemed pretty good. anything i could be missing guys??? thanks for the advice. |

Did you adjust your brakes at all? That could be making a noise, if the brakes are loose in there. good luck anthony _________________ slow down! |

| i just got in the house. i think my brake drum may be scraping my backing plate in one spot. weird. anyway my brakes are making an awful grinding noise now after putting them back on and bleeding. sounds like when you dont drive for a while then you have that surface rust on the rotors and drums. could my shoes just be a little dirty?? and does anyone know an easy way or trick to removing those damn brake drums? |

I don't know what year you have, but my 71 has 2 bolts that you undo to take the drum off of the back wheels. _________________ My Shows:

If you damaged the backing plate, it can rub against the drum. My first guess would be to check the leading edge of the drum/backing plate. CVs usually make more of a chattering or popping noise when they are going bad. _________________ '78 Westy

If you adjust them out they will make a sound against the drums until you wear them even again. Make sure that the adjusters have the clip holding them in place or they will back themselves out or in, and make sure they move freely so you can adjust them. Something could be loose in there like the e-brake cable and it can rub if you were in there recently and didn't put things back in there proper place. good luck anthony _________________ slow down! |

| The drums usually come off fairly easily, once you take the two bolts off, then you can get a really good look at the inner workings and see what's up. Jeremy |
