I'm guessing a hundred pounds of children wouldn't break anything but I still think you should complete a triangle with the hang down of the back seat brace. AND it would give you a place to mount you shock resi Wink

Well that is at least one less thing to worry about. Now I am trying to figure out how the return lines for the fuel route and about 10 other things. Between the Performane forum on here and shoptalkforums I should get it figured out soon. I was hoping to get it painted this weekend but had to work OT. I guess it works out, more money for more parts.

Not a bad idea. I was thinking of putting a brace their but didn't get around to it and that would be a great place for the resi. I'm sure I have some leftover 1" square stock that should do the job.

Numerous reasons, pick one.

I'm a very unique individual
I like one-off cars
Another great takling point
Fiberglass is flimsy (eventually ditch my fenders and get aluminum or custom)
Less cutting and mods
It could be changed to a rat rod with 3x3's if it gets boring... Laughing

I just want to get this thing done. Evil or Very Mad I might be able to get some work done on Sunday if I don't have a huge hangover from the open house I'm helping at. I'll post up some pics if I get anything done.

Have a good weekend. Cool

Trust me when I had the rear end sitting on the ground it made me think twice about this project. All I would need is a 6" front end extension tied into the cage and a 30's Ford front end. Who knows maybe I'll buy another bug and make it a volksrod, toss the turbo motor in it and put the subaru motor in my Baja.

I finally got a chance to work on the car again. Started on the front end and most everything got blue threadlocker on it. Cleaned/packed the bearings, put on the ball joints and tie rods, greased everything with Lucas, welded the steering shafts, put in the steering heims, almost completely done with final assembly of the front end....... and then came the brakes. Sad

I know the EMPI disk brake kit is a POS but this is just a toy. I couldn't believe the piss poor craftsmanship and they weren't even close to fitting. I wound up cutting off 1/8" of the brake mount itself where the bolt holes are located to get the disk between the pads. In the process of grinding down the middle area between the bolt holes I nicked the rubber around the caliper piston. Now what do I do, how do I get a replacement Question Oh and thank (insert religous figure of your choice) someone installed the brake pads on the front the rear is a whole other story...so on to the rear.

I got the trans tightened in, motor mounted, bearings cleaned/packed, trailing arm bolts tightened and safety wired, CV's cleaned/packed, CV boots installed, CV's clocked on the axles, grease all over me and everything I touch, can't tighten any cv bolts by hand, the grease is now on my face, beard and in my hair, finally get both sides done. Very Happy Only thing left is the brakes. The disk fit nicely in the groove where it was suppose to go. Smile The hardware was all there. Confused Last step put in the pads. Sad So I grabbed the instructions, took out the top float bolt and let the caliper swing open. Opened the box of brake pads and they were all inner pads, no outer pads. Mad When you tried to install them the spring holder was in the way. Evil or Very Mad I had a couple of guys up there make sure I wasn't losing it and they said the same thing. I ended up grinding the spring holder off the pad to get it to fit correctly. Wow I hate these brakes already.

Oh the brighter side of things the $10 crappy CV boots worked great on the rear shocks to cover the hole in the wheel well and I got the old lady to come help me at the shop. She helped with the CV's and was covered in grease, it was priceless. I'll try to post some pics of everything tomorrow after work. Hope everyone had a great 4th!

Your making great progress. Do you mind taking a picture of your CV boot shock seals?

I will have to take a pic when I get back from vacation on the 20th. Shouldn't be long after that and it should be done. I told my brother in law to paint it for me while I'm gone if they get some extra time. Who knows what it'll look like when I get back.

Time to hit the road. Cool

Got a chance to work on the baja for a change. Here's what I got done.

Got the fuel pump installed
rear fuel lines finished
boost referenced FPR installed
headers on and wrapped
high temp sealed the collector and wrapped it
trashed the little crappy springs holding the exhaust collector and replaced them with heavy duty turnbuckles
sand blasted my rims (brother in law did that for me)
ran the lines from the master cylinder to the resivour

I think I'm getting pretty close to not having to touch the motor again until it's running. Now I can concentrate on paint and getting the interior back together. Here are some pics of the updates. ENJOY!

Finally got a chance to paint today. I got some help from my brother in law and a couple guys from the shop. The paint is $30 at tractor supply, it's low gloss black implement paint. The front/rear bumpers and rims and done in charcoal. I didn't get pics of the rims or bumpers but I will tomorrow. My rear tires are 31x10.50x15 Cooper Discoverer STT and the fronts are Mickey Thompson Baja Pro 30x7.00x15. I should have them on the car by friday. She's actually starting to come together finally. Here's some pics.
