I've got no clue which model of a 110 cabinet this is. It's certainly pre '65, but it doesn't appear in any catalog or brochure I know of.
But I'm on it. Could be special layout for a petrol station (110TA?), which also changes tires, so the slot might be for a longer tire iron...
Normally there is the space for a metal saw, a hammer and two adjustable wrenches. |

As most people know, I'm a jeweler and VW enthusiast. I'm always looking for new creative ways to combine the two. Around a year ago I purchased a bunch of these little HAZET wrenches and I'm finally getting around to making some rings. (you could do it too.) Would anyone have interest in these? Seems like I might owe one to a few of the people on here anyway.
The larger ring is a 450n 4/5mm (I only have two of this style). The smaller ring is a 440 3.2mm electric. I could play around with the finishes. Seems like they could be blued like pictured, rusted, or polished.

Ummm yeah! I'm a ring guy. I've only got a couple of unoccupied fingers left, but one of these would take of that in a hurry. A "patina" finish would look cool, as long as tetanus doesn't become an issue. _________________ sent from a phone using poor grammar and spelling |

In fact no Longer tire iron because both are just an "U"

I made a small collage about the 110 TA, but there´s no hint about the "U".
Also especially that cabinet does not appear in previously catalogs, but it existed - yours is the proof!
About the missing tool for the door I have to throw in the towel and no idea what it might have been.

Last two missing tools are on their way. My wife's parents bought this toolkit with their 67 bug and gave it to me when I built my 67. Only three tools were missing from it, the valve adjustment tool, channel lock pliers, and oil service wrench.
Both the pliers and oil service wrench are in the mail to me now!!

Hi Nils
You got a proper treasure there! Even the paint of the box could be original.
I would date it on 1931/32.
In the 1930s catalog the 240a box is still wooden and the logo is red(ish). From 1933 on the box is out of metal. Also they changed their house-colors into blue/yellow and brought out a new ratchet with a closed head.
Very nice and rare!
Cheers,
Philipp |

Found in the gallery. How common (or uncommon) is this kit?
Thanks |

Regarding to this at least this kit is not worth much more than the usual kit |

'51-'52 16" Spare Tire Round Tool Kit

Notice, there's NO Small Phillip Screw Driver (Stubby)
Large & Medium Screw Drivers have yellow tips and NO markings on the shaft.

The wrenches in the 1951-52 box should include open end and box wrench 600-10mm, double open end wrench 450-7x9mm an of course open end and box wrench 600-14mm.
This kit seems to have the later small wrenches which came in October 1952 when the 10mm fuel line nuts were introduced for the Zwitter and 600-10 was swapped for the 450-10X12 double open end wrench which would have been useless in a pre Octorebr 1952 Split Beetle (no 12 mm nuts). This is evident in the Hazet 1952 catalog, see list of tools
The 11 tools (dull/matt finish) were:
The first box in 1951-52 consisted of 11 pieces:
1 pair of combination pliers 150 mm long / Hazet 1850
1 open end and box 14 mm wrench for carburetor and full connections / Hazet 600-14
1 T-handle socket wrench 14 mm for fuel pump / Hazet 527
1 open end and box 10 mm wrench for carburetor / Hazet 600-10
1 screwdriver for carburetor and electrical equipment / Hazet 813-3 (shaft length 80mm/ tip width 3mm)
1 large screwdriver / Hazet 811-6 (shaft length 150mm/ tip width 8mm)
1 double open end wrench 7X9 mm for distributor and coil / Hazet 450-7X9
1 spark plug wrench DBGM / Hazet 764
1 wheel nut tool with hub cap removing tool / Hazet 772-2
1 box wrench 36 mm for generator pulley /Hazet 561
1 pair of universal pliers 240mm long / Hazet 760
full 1952 catalog see http://www.hazet.de/uploads/media/Hazet_Katalog_1252.pdf . The new tools are in the 1954 catalog http://www.hazet.de/uploads/media/Hazet_Katalog_1454.pdf along with the introduction of the short stubby Philips head screwdriver 814-02
Please note that according to catalog the spare generator belt fits snugly between spare tire and tool box.
Very nice kit, maybe a transitional kit from late 1952 or most likely some small wrenches have been swapped for later ones at some point?
Here is a picture of the 1952 catalog with the appropriate wrenches:
Interestingly the same early wrenches appear in this kit´s decal:

The holy grail for vw special tools?
Hazet cabinet "500 Sch" for Volkswagen Tools from the early 50's.
It took me 8 hours to clean and polish this baby, but totally worth it.

760 - Locking Pliers & 1850-6 - Pliers

I came across similar 760 pliers with handle bars quite close to each other. It appears that the 760 design was changed about 1960 to this style and earlier ones have handle bars considerably farther apart. Can anyone confirm this or were the pliers just a bit different from batch to batch?
Here is a picture of my pliers:
They are in very good shape, obviously not bent and the bolt is not worn at all.
Early label seems to have pliers with handles farther apart:
a later label (1962?) has the handles closer to each other:
The later version of 760 with large HAZET lettering (post 1965) again has the handles more apart as does 760-3 like the earlier versions.
Comments please. |
