Ha - tool behind the camera
That sucks. Finding the tools will probably cost more in the end than the boxes did
Thats a Split era Hazet spare tire kit right? Du to the full circle clip on back? _________________

Picked up a couple of bits recently
2806 roll with 330 spanners (these are tiny!) I researched and found nothing other then a revised version 2806-35 which has 430 spanners does anyone have an old brochure that states what should have been in the roll?
162L Assisant
900AWZ SAE/Whitworth loads missing but the box is cool, insert in metal so am I right in think that's early 50's?
Lovely Patina'd can, tools as new but missing screwdrivers

I found an incomplete Hazet Tourist Toolkit at a swap meet for just over $500 recently. Similar to Rippers' I think.
It was originally supplied by a New Zealand VW dealer. The sticker is still on the underside of the toolbox.
The contents (tools) appear to be well used.
I need 4 items to complete the set, namely
Universal Pliers 760-3
Combination Wrench 600-14mm
Crank Type Speeder 772-2 (SINCE FOUND AND ON THE WAY)
Combination Pliers 1850-6 (6") 1957
The missing items should be similar to these:

Your kit is from about 1954 to 1955.
The short stubby screwdriver and 7X8 and 10X12 wrenches were introduced when the Zwitter came out.
1952 tools have 7X9 and 10 mm and 14 mm wrenches and only two screwdrivers.
The 12 mm wrench cannot be used in an earlier Split as there are no 12 mm nuts or bolts used.
In late 1955 the 764 spark plug wrench was made longer to 130 mm, I think yours is still 111 mm making it mid 1955 or earlier, you can check. The felt was dropped by early 1956.
Your kit should have the nickel finish 760 pliers (not chrome) with "L" underline in the "azet"... like below. I have this available if you are interested... PM me.

I just recently picked up a couple Fostoria lamps... to make one base adapter for when I get to fiddling around with my Assistent. Then the original lamp (1615) popped up in the classifieds & so I was lucky enough to be first on the horn. Don't have it yet... but here she is....

It looks much the same as the one I've got, which I'm told is a 55-56. It has blue felt under the tools.
I'm still looking for the pliers (at the top) and the combination spannewr (top of the 3 spanners in you photo) to complete my set. _________________ Festina lente - hasten slowly

I don't really know, but down here a full set with good patina sells for between $1000 and $1500. _________________ Festina lente - hasten slowly

My Hazet Tourist round box kit (the 1952-1955 version) appears to be original so far as the box, the lining, the small phillips screwdriver, number of wrenches and T-handle 14mm socket wrench are concerned, with one qualification.
Which is where I need help. According to the table I have (from the Porsche 356 site), the T-handle 14mm socket wrench has the number 527. The one I have is numbered 529. I suspect that it is the original item, and that the person who created the Porsche table made an error. Or maybe there's no error at all.
Help please. (Where is Mac Intosh? I think he knows the answer.) _________________ Festina lente - hasten slowly

Hi kiwighia68,
Iīm sorry to disappoint you, but there is no number 529 in all catalogs or papers I know of (there is no spoon ). It endīs with 527 and starts over at 530.
I can only guess that itīs a) wrong stamped or b) something special, we donīt know of yet...

Thank you very much, Phillip. After reading through two of the catalogues and finding 527 in the second, I decided to take another look at the suspect tool. And the number is 527, which I discovered after a bit a cleaning and better light.

Finally found the last tool (the pliers) to complete my Hazet Tourist toolkit that was originally sold by the VW dealer in New Zealand.
What should I say to my wife, who said, when I opened the parcel from Scott in the UK, "Oh, it's just a pair of pliers"?
Just a pair of pliers? Really?
(She was born in 1955, and I would have thought she would show more respect.) _________________ Festina lente - hasten slowly

Possible dumb question - Is it a different pairs of pliers than others since it was sold in NZ?
Use the pliers on her. ;) |
Two points, Everett:
1. The pliers are the original 1955 Tourist ones. All the tools in the set are the correctly numbered ones for the years 1955-6, according to the experts here.
2. And since my wife paid for them, I have to accept her comments in silence. _________________ Festina lente - hasten slowly
