thanks guys, I guess we shall see once I get the engine installed and take it down the road. thats after I get the brakes sorted out of course. that reminds me, I need to order new brake lines and new components for the rear drums...it seems to be never-ending getting this thing road worthy! Laughing

update: windshield installed!! after much pounding, forcing, and other means of "persuasion", its in. I recruited the help of some of my Amish brethren down the road at the glass shop and with some force and one guy on the inside pulling the weed-eater string, its in. very tight fit.

the seal I bought from Viande worked out very nice, and was so meaty and well made that we needed some force to get the windshield to set, but its done. here are a couple of pictures

in this picture you can see that the seal was made with corners moulded into it, so fitment at the corners worked out nicely. Thanks Bobby!

hey brother, yeah, I already dropped the front 2.5 inches with dropped spindles, and once I have the motor in and see how much the rear drops, I will probably drop the rear as well (with the help of dear Cory from down south, Lord willing), leaving me with only a slight rake. there is a pic on page 9 of the front end dropped using the spindles.

yeah I saw that , and noticed it was lower than previous , but like you said when the extra weight gets added it will definatley tak it down more ! But I would recommend at least so 145 front tires , for turning radius ! And I will buy your new stock tires ! LOL !

Okay guys, I got word today that the engine is done! I will be picking it up sometime between now and August 28th, so I'm getting so close to driving my bug I can practically smell the exhaust in my clothes. Smile

The engine will be a mild mannered combo with the following specs:

Displacement: 1914

-AS21 case, full-flowed
-Demello 8-dowel counterweighted 69mm crank
-Mahle 94mm pistons and cylinders
-Ported and Polished heads, 40 x 35.5 valves, 3 angle valve job, dual springs
-VW connecting rods
-HD chromoly pushrods
-German lifters
-Compression 9:1, deck .040, chambers 54 cc
-26mm Shadeck oil pump, set up for full flow and filter
-Engle 110 camshaft
-Bosch 010 distributor
-Bosch blue coil
-Dual Kadrons
-1.5" merged header with single quiet pack exhaust

Nick gave it the full treatment, with his "high performance" balance job to .5 ounce on rotating assy and 1/2 gram on rods and pistons. I'm not exactly sure what the cam will let me rev the motor to but the balance job is easily capable of safely taching up 6500 RPMs.

I can't wait to drive this thing!! I'm very curious what kind of torque I'm going to see with this combo. All I've ever really driven were stockers.

This will be a very lively and rev-happy engine! Will you install a tachometer in the dash?

probably not in the dash, although I will install a tachometer somewhere. I also want to monitor some other things like oil pressure, oil temp, and CHT. Good gauges are expensive!!

I'm hoping that going with the 1.5" exhaust that I won't have to rev the pee out of the engine to see some torque. I realize that a stroker would produce a lot more low RPM torque, but a 1915 is what I'm having built.

okay heres the picture of under the hood. sorry its a little dirty now since I was cutting framing lumber in the garage last week with the bug in there. Embarassed that was not too smart. I have not installed the gas tank yet, but the wires are all hooked back up.

Good evening folks.

Tomorrow is the day! I pick up the engine tomorrow that is being constructed for me. I eagerly await the day I get it installed and take my first drive down the road in my 73. Its strange, I've had the 73 for 9 months now and its never made a peep. Laughing the engine was out when I bought it.

Wonderful car!!!, but just a suggestion... switch sides on your turn signal lenses/chrome covers, the longer side window in the chromed cover/lens part is supposed to point outwards of the car, so you can be better seen at night.

Thanks

when I was installing those, I was pondering that very thing! I decided that they looked nicer with the chrome side out, but now that I know the correct orientation I will change them. Good eye, and thanks!
