Funny this topic should come up this week. My wife just bought me the Revell T3 "Camper" kit - just because. She's like that. She found it at a local hobby and craft shop, there was only one kit on the shelf.
So now I've spent nearly $50 on acrylic model paint, and that's not all the colours the kit calls for. Even a scale model of a Vanagon costs scale dollars
I hope to finish the kit to look like our real '88 Westfalia Canadian version, so will need a few mods.
Maybe a photo will appear here when it is all done. _________________ '88 VW Westfalia

Funny you post that, last Nov in Tucson, my wife and II were in a hobby shop and found the T3 Joker, so she insisted I buy it. I went back to get the paint, and yes another $50, plus small files, brushes, glue, and yet still haven't started it.
Hmm, new thread, my T3 won't start.
When you look at the instructions and the paints 'needed', buy them all and probably 90 bucks! Some colors will need about 1ml. If you are into scale model building, most you would have, but for us 1 kit guys...
Oh, and the stick holding up the hatch is priceless! However, he should have fuzzed out the tag. Looked quick, thought it was SNA FU upon closer examination I was wrong, but I think it should have been my impression. _________________ Live Fulltime in motorhome

I used a broom stick to hold open the hatch on my first Westy _________________ 1987 Westy |

Anybody else built this kit? Post up some pics!
Here's mine;
...and here's an idea I was pursuing last winter, a Karmann Gipsy replica. Didn't get much past this stage.

I Just wanted to bump this thread, as I just finished my Revell Volkswagen Van Camper kit.
The model is an aircooled version, but I painted it to look like my '91 Westy.
The paint is actually color matched Orly Blue that I bought from a local auto parts store in a spray bomb.
It's been years since I built a plastic model. I used to build them with my Dad when I was a kid. This was the perfect intro back into it.
After a quick search, I see that many people have posted about this kit, but there's only one member to post a picture of their own finished kit! (Nice work BTW Syncroincity!)
There HAS to be more than just one of you out there with a finished one!
Don't be shy! Post 'em up!
Sorry for the poor quality pics, I just took them with my iPhone. I intend to take better pics later...

Awesome work there! Love the roof rack, bike & box, where did you find that in 1/25?
Nice touch with the swivel seat too, I didn't catch that at first.
I want to go on record here and say this was one of the most difficult models to detail cleanly I've ever worked on... maybe I'm getting old, but the window rubber was insanely hard to paint, you have to free-hand it, there's no protrusion or mold line to work with.
Someone with skillz needs to come up with a WBX upgrade kit, with lower grill and square headlights. _________________ '86 Syncro CHC Top AAZ Turbodiesel

I bought a Revell Westfalia model kit with the intent to just use the body and such for a radio control car. I see a ton of cool scaled down offroad vehicles on Instagram and it got me to want to try my hand at doing the same.
I started out with a Losi trail trekker which the wheelbase was way long but I have sourced parts in order to shorten the chassis to the correct length. I kind of abandoned this idea and will prolly save the chassis in order to mate it with a Unimog body sometime in the future.
losi trail trekker
I had an old 2wd Mini-Z onroad car sitting in one of my closets for the past 5 years or so.. maybe longer. I thought I’d check that chassis and see how it fit wheelbase and track wise. It was close but I want an off roady look similar to what my real van has. Hehe.
Kyosho Mini-Z car chassis
I knew Kyosho also sold a Overland 2wd chassis and once I looked into them it seems they’ve been discontinued for a few years. Bummer. Well I managed to find one on Ebay brand new so I thought I’d try it and see. I think this is the winner… especially since its really close to the wheelbase I need and the scale of the wheels and tires is a close match. I just need to shave off about 2mm on the wheelbase and we’ll be in business.
Kyosho Mini-Z Overland chassis
I’ll start painting the model and adding on the pieces required in order to complete the exterior of the vanagon shell. I also hope to add a light kit so it’ll have working headlights and taillights. The goal is to get it close to how my real van looks. Hehe. This will be a fun ongoing project to complete during my down time etc… =) _________________ Abel Longoria

The Overland chassis has n adjustable wheelbase from like 95mm to 110mm in 5mm increments. The wheelbase of the revel model is about 98mm. Notice the blue painters tape on the bottom. I have the front main link disconnected and moved towards the center of the wheelbase a bit in order to get that 98mm wheelbase.
I plan to cut that link in the middle of it and shorten it the required length.
Should work out fine! _________________ Abel Longoria
