Unlike an American car, the VIN number on most ACVWs does not include all of that information. For instance, I have recently acquired a Type 3 KG, but all I know for sure from the VIN is that it is a '65 Type 34. I can guess the original color based on the hard to reach areas, but I don't know for sure. This certificate will tell me a lot more about it. Everett posted a scan of his document, that's what we learn.

Not mention it's cool to frame the certificate and have an official VW document on the wall of your prized VW. Wink

Clue me in. Why buy a birth certificate for your car? The VIN number can tell you all you need to know.

Well, in the UK, pre-1.1.1973 is tax exempt, and my own vehicle which is either 1972 or 1973, and bought this week, was exported from Germany to Cyprus, and then imported to England in 1992, the form V5 (US pink slip?) states declared manufactured in 1973, although the VIN may be 1972 looking at this website.

If the VW Certificate states manufacture was in '72 I'll not have to pay £170 a year in Road Fund Licence (Tax).

With the vague history it's worth finding out, and certainly isn't a scam.

Today I have sent my second request, as the first request I faxed in September has not been responded to.

I emailed them my request in September, heard nothing (but I didn't expect to as I know from previous experience that it takes about 2 months to get the certificate), and it arrived yesterday. Be patient, it will get to you. You may have just double-ordered the certificate now.

F@$k, i just got back from wolfsburg last week. i went to the factory but they didn't give tours on the weekend. the people at the autostadt museum didn't know anything about the birth cirtificates. then i went to the air-cooled VW museum, i didn't even think of asking them about the certs. now i look on here and come to find out i could have gotten all 4 birthcertificates while i was at the other museum. Oh well, looks like i will have to plan another trip to germany.

Mine came in finally. It didn't list the paint or interior color? Since I know the og color of both, its not a big deal. However it still would be cool to see it on the certificate.

How long did you have to wait since you paid for the birth certificate?

Under the old "birth certificate" system, your credit card would not be charged until the museum actually had your information ready to go, so you would see the charge on your credit card and 7 days later you would have your birth certificate...

Under the new automated "birth certificate" system your credit card is charged immediately. i imagine that you will be refunded once the alloted 6 weeks has expired with no results in finding information. I know that my credit card was charged around a month ago and i still have not seen the certificate Mad

so...once again we are back to sqaure one with the whole "birth certificate" process Crying or Very sad good luck......

It took me like 6 weeks for it to be in my mailbox. But it was worth it.
