Just got mine in.

Ordered on February 13 and just got it today. March 11th. I had forgotten I ordered it.

Now I know the true identity of my car.

Arrghh!

I applied for a birth certificate for my import project 65 bus but have been told their microfiche is damaged for the chassis number!

It also has it's m-plate missing.

It's VIN plate and chassis number are all in order however.

Do I have any other option because this is going to complicate registration, and I wanted to recreate the m-plate.

Hey, here's a tip for you all.... DON'T include the model number when ordering your certificate!!

I sent away for one for my 64 Squareback, and I included the raised "36" as a prefix on my serial number.

Today I got notice from Wolfsburg that they couldn't find my number and to search again would cost an additional 10 Euro.

I thought I was helping them out, by giving them the "36" (letting them know it was a type 3 squareback/variant). Now its going to cost me an extra $14 bucks. I really figured they'd know how to "read" a serial number..I'm rotted.

Here's some of the email I got:

"Unfortunately we can`t find any information under the Vin-No. 360 348 001 you gave us.

Please confirm if this number was correct and give us all other information about your car you have on hand(estimated production date, kind of vehicle, if possible some pictures of the m-plate a.s.o.).

Please note, that we have to charge you with an additional fee about 10,00 € for a second enquiry (Please confirm)"

Just a question, i have bought a nice August 55 ragtop bug. I asked for my birth certificate.
I got it a few days ago without the confirmation of the original motor or not. Mister Doerk from VW autostiftung wrote me and say that those cars (late fifties) hasn't the motor registered.

So i wrote him and asked him some question about the motor which number is the following : 1 - 1 140 546. He told me it is a motor from december 55 or january 56.

I asked him again to check the first digit "1" befor 1 140 546. He told me it doesn't matter. It's the same ...
I'm quite disapointed because i thought my motor was the original one and i check onthesamba vin/chassis numbers. It's seems my motor is from august.

Can anyone confirm me ?

Thanks guys

is from
August, 1955

They made a mistake

What? This is not true, I have a few certificates with the original motor # on them from back when they used to provide the engine #s.

I do not - I would try again and maybe send them the months around your engine # from this site and let them this information is straight from the VW Dealer Book "Progressive Refinements" so VW made this listing.

Got it today! And, as far as I can tell, no extra charge for re-searching.

Yeah. It's "Unknown"; might have been offered only for the Canadian market, eh?

Got mine today for my 1984 car. Took about 5 1/2 weeks. Unfortunately the exterior and interior colors listed on the certificate are both impossible. Emailed them back and waiting for a response. Hopefully they can be corrected and reissued because having a wrong certificate is pretty much useless.

Update: Received a corrected certificate about a week and half after I emailed them. I never received an email reply - it just showed up in the mail.

Dear Mr Reyes,
