I'm still weighing PC / Paint options. Had chassis media blasted and primed. Still performing body mods i.e. choptop and seat brackets will be cut / lowered 3 inches and 1/2 rear roll cage welded in. I was told $500.00 to light blast again (to remove new temporary primer) and PC, and that's with the roll cage, so it's gotta go in the jumbo oven.

Chassis media blast was $150.00

I know a guy that got me an inside deal at a place he works for. They ran it through the bead blaster twice and powedercoated it twice. $350. I didn't have to do anything but drop off the bare rusty pan.

Even if it cost more I wounld DEFINATLY powdercoat over paint any chassis parts. The paint will not take the abuse like powdercoat will. Its worth the extra dollars when you have it that far apart.

Now i have to get my beam and track bars done and some odd and ends done.

My ONLY concern with PC is that it can't be touched up. And it's not as durable as one might think, but it is definitely "better" than paint.

It all depends on the paint and prep though. I had my pan totally sandblasted then painted it with POR15 and the finish is great. It is tough as PC and if it ever does get chipped I can always touch it up.

I've heard others not have good results with POR15 and other rust inhibitor paints but I also question the prep work.

In any event, your pan looks great. It's always nice to start a project with something fresh and clean. It make working on things much easier.

You concern should be that you have no idea what you are talking about. It's easy to touch up powder coating. All you need to do is respray it and reheat it. It will melt and blend together. You can also use a infrared lamp to heat up the touched up spots. As for durability, I powder coated my wheels and tin on the motor of my '79 16 years and 100,000 miles ago. A little windex and it looks like new. I'd say it's pretty durable.

its a standard. CB shipped the stuff out today!

And I have seen first hand powdercoat holds up WAY better than wet spray. I made the mistake on wet spraying alot of parts on my harley that are low and get alot of rocks and debris. wheels and fork sliders etc. Within the summer they were all chipped and crappy looking. I have since redone the parts with powdercoat and have not had a problem since. Same with car wheels i have never had a wetspray wheel last more than a year or so. powdercoat lasts way longer but no its not a miracle finish. It still wears and chips.

Harley's been powder coating their frames since the early to mid 90's. If you bash it hard enough, it'll chip but you gotta hit it pretty hard. I have dents on my wheels from impact wrenches that have not chipped the powder coating. I even powder coated the split rims on my '65 Chevy truck. To mount those rims you gotta bash the outer ring with a hammer to spread it over the rim. Although I've only mounted one set of tires on these rims, they look like new after all the mounting trauma.

FWIW, the CB beams are painted, you might need another trip to your coater before assembling the beam.

Maybe my comment should of said it doesn't look good touched up. Period. Seen it, don't like it, won't do it.

Then it wasn't done correctly. Done right, it's impossible to tell.

Wow, that sure looks nice! Cool

Those almost look like new pans. Did you replace them at all or are they the same in both pictures?
