Hey guys, just bought a 67 912 and the trans is bad. Looks like they ran it without oil and when I took it apart there were bearings frozen and some of the gears looked blue from heat. I am not a tranny expert but would like to know what it costs to rebuild, who is recommended by you guys/girls as a good place to work on it, or should I just buy a used one.
It is a 902/0 4 speed box.
Thanks for all the help |

If you can find a decent used one that would probably be least expensive. Dunno if Vic Skirmants works on anything that late anymore but you can ask - http://www.356enterprises.com
I have a few 5 speeds in the barn but no fours... _________________ Beauty is in the eye of the key holder ... |

Rescue 912, what would you want for one of the 5 speed tranny core. I found a rebuilder in PA that has a great reputation in the 914 circuit. Can you PM or email me your price? |

Is it possible swap 914 5 speed gears (901 trans) into the 902 4 speed case or is the case different. Alternatively a 914 trans with nose cone pieces/R&P from the 902? _________________ CMC '57 Porsche Speedster Replica and Dolphin boat tailed full pan VW MOD-T Street Buggy |

4sp and 5sp cases are the same and you could swap all the gears and everything into the early 4sp case. The differential carrier and bearings are different, but the ring and pinion are the same.
