Does anyone know where I can buy a header that will eliminate my heater boxes on my 1980 Westy?

The ones I see advertised keep them on.

Never seen one.

I would think that keeping a "heat option" would be nice to have up there.

Sometimes I use my heat/defrost when I am up there.

the muffler in your link is junk, do not use it.

Had to hijack this thread for a moment after seeing Randy's pic at Meat Cove. The northernmost tip of Cape Breton Island. Beautiful.

Here's Olive last summer at Alexander Graham Bells first home he built in Baddeck NS.

Those pipes are exactly what I'm thinking of, any idea when they'll be back in stock?

I just used that picture for an example.

For heat I have a gas heater but as a summer vehicle I would seldom ever have to use it.

In the Vanagon Forum no one wants to talk about air cooled engines.

you're right about that. i didn't catch that part. the pipes in the link will not work if you have the original cylinder heads.

aircooledtechnology had some in the past, I've just look at the web site and doesn't seem he have them anymore...

You have another option but in Europe, and I don't see any price.

I am of the opinion that you should keep the heater boxes and obtain the header with muffler.

The heater boxes actually help to push heat out through the chimney on the flaps.

Our 78 Westy has additional piping from the flappers to hard pipes that exit under the rear bumper

I've made oval port heat exchangers work on square port heads by cutting the oval piece that goes into the oval port off flat with the bolt flanges and filing the surfaces smooth and flat. I used a large file to do both mounting flanges at the same time to ensure no leaks.

Another option if you have oval port heads:
