How about uppin the ante now? Here are several sets of GENUINE 48mm Webers that are "sand cast". Note the little enamel badge that you dont find anymore.
Todays "immitation" die-cast Weber 48's were made from these prototypes. I bought these when they were cheap at $5,000 a pair. Enjoy! Mr. Okrasa

Very nice! Still not as rare as the 46 IDM's I sold a few years ago |

The guy that is/was going to make them has been at it for over 4 years now?? Since I have purchased
some intakes from Ray also, I wont be coming out with a set. This idea took too long and just "fizzled" away....... _________________

Ray doesn't answer emails and his website is "under construction" for ...well, forever. Guess selling his junk is not a priority. _________________ "My biggest worry is that when I die, my wife will sell all my parts for what I told her I paid for them"-Jon

Hello-
I hate to be a stick in the mud, but I have some practical questions for those of you using Solex P40-11 carbs.
1) I believe the Solex carbs came with 32mm venturis. Are you planning on running your engines in the 5-6K range, or are you going to install some smaller venturis?
2) I've read that the later split shaft Solexs have a much better transition circuit. I've also read that they're a pain in the rear until you convert them over to a solid shaft configuration. A number of carb restorers will do this for a little less than $2K. Are you rebuilding these yourselves, or are you biting the bullet, and shipping them out to be rebuilt.
Smokin' hot carbs, by the way.
Regards,
Paul |

I'm running p11's on a 1600 based engine, so I can't really comment on venturi size. I did however have a set of split shaft carbs converted to solid shaft by 356 Carb Rescue. The split shaft carbs have an independent idle circuit, as well as 5 progression holes rather than the 4 found on the earlier solid shaft carbs. Anyway, I had the bodies done on an exchange basis, I tore them down and reassembled the carbs myself. The work done was VERY well done, but it wasn't cheap at $675 for the pair.
I would like to know if they fit in a Beetle engine compartment using those tall manifolds and the early shroud. P11's are HUGE carbs (width wise), mine are atop vintage EMPI globe manifolds and I had to drill 1" holes in each side of the body for the accelerator pump rods to pass through. I was not happy about that. _________________ EMPI Power Rules! |
