|
|
Got a call from a buddy about two weeks ago and told me there was a squareback in my area on Craiglist, Add was for free but had to be picked up that day.
So jumped in me bus and took a drive out and snatched me up a square.
Turns out Im the second owner, bought in 1965 and in about 68 the Owner gave it two his son who went about making a pavement pounding squareback and hit the streets hard in Vancouver.
I don't know about you guys, but Its like every car I buy I here stories about how it used to lift the wheels off the ground......with like a 1641........
Or a 1500 converted to a race motor (1600 dual port heads)
So I take a good look at what I obtained and Start talking to a real cool guy named Peter who was the son..
In about 1968 he got the square and was very into beating ever V8 that he could get near, (His fav were Corvette's)
He ended up getting a motor built from a local builder named Tony Hill.
(Very well known in the area for some pretty stout racing engines)
He built the entire car himself and I really have to hand it to him for its time it was and still is fricken wicked.
Here is how it looked when I got it.
So I take a goooood look at this car once I have it and notice quite a few little options that make it very special to what it used to be.
It is one of the few squares that tended to be fast and had all the mods to back the owners story, (First fricken time in my life that has happened)
It has 3/8 fuel line, A big old Carter electric fuel pump, Properly plumed throu the center section, Including the gas tank outlet fitting!!
Take the Drum off, Notice that the tires are Rated for like mach 9 And what is under the rims... Good old fashion 356 brakes! Wicked.
Peter the old owner was quite the wiring designer, Keeping in mind this is 1970 here folks.
2.5 inch fender flares, And inlet scoops to the twin carbs out the cargo floor.
Vdo gauges everywhere, old tach, and a real hurst shifter,
Peter ran a twin 6 system power to half of the main board in 12volt and also ran a 6 set up for factory items, (crazy wire job)
Full of old parts
Lots of toggles
Nice old slots
All cleaned out and ready to go
Right into the shop the two days later
And into the paint the following day
Right into the gauges
And finished those off
Found old reciepts
And working on the headliner this weekend
Really loving this ugly old beast |

Cool find and story. I would call it "Slayer".
I dig the scoops on the rear fenders and the mag wheels. _________________ Justify denials and grip it to the lonesome end

I intend to keep the car the way it was created, Keeping the brakes and the flares and scoops, Changed the color to my choice, and the interior will be a brown and oatmeal combo,
Have a few motor options, The orig motor is pooched and I only got a few pieces of it, The rest im buying at a later date with the owner.
Came with a 66 1500 That will be going in just to drive around.
Besides eliminating the wiring, that is pretty much the only thing Im changing, Maybe the rims as well.
Headliner came with the car, it was pulled off the road in 1974 and sat ever since. lots of dust, I was blowing the dust off with my air gun, plus washing it, and still had to blow it off again, It was crazy amounts of the stuff
But zero rust, nowhere, aint none, nuttin.
Which is really cool.

After fighting with the front hood trim seal for endless days, It seems I have to admit defeat...........
Its shrunk.
Anyone know who sells a white repo front nose trim seal? |

Best bet is to check here, or use dye on a new black one.
Sweet ride.

I hope you were able to save that original padded dash. I was noticing in the pictures, that it was not cracked across the speaker, which is rare in itself. _________________ Society is like stew. If you don't keep it stirred up, you end up with a lot of scum on the top!--Edward Abbey
