Anyone have an original windshield from around September of 58? Or know what logo and numbers to be looking for?

Thank you! That leads me in the right direction, I do have an export model so would be interested to see what others chime in with. Thanks again _________________ -Ryan

Your welcome, my OG windshield was not safety glass. More like plate glass. No way I was putting it in front of my mug. But I'm keeping it for reasons like this. Btw that logo is really small. _________________ 59 Euro Ragtop Build (Finished)

repro scripts have different pins than the originals and will not fit pre drilled hoods. You will have to find an original script, good luck. |
Yep, and originals are hard to find. I am either lucky enough, or unlucky enough, depending on how you look at it, to have them on both of my cars, but, I am in need of one for my 61 ( I broke it while washing), and have yet to find one, hence my sig line.
Here is what to look for though, the pins are located in different locations, like Altewagen said. Take a look at the pic below.
The original on my 58.

58-59's used the grey mats, shift boot, and E - boot. But, I have seen a bunch of 58's still using the Oval leftovers, on the boots. My own 58 has an original black E-boot. _________________ WANTED: Henry Veale Santa Rosa plate frames

Hello. Could someone post a picture of an original trunk liner/pad? I am trying to replicate the pad that goes between the gas tank and wiring cover for my latest '59 build. Thanks! |

Yes. On the US Spec cars after ~1955. Before that and Euro spec cars it was Sekurit (among others). _________________ -Ryan

Lots of interest in this '58/'59 thread.
In just a little over one year, it's hit 58/59 pages! |
here here! its cause 58/59 are the pinnacle of vw production- early style, modernized just the right amount with out getting cheap or losing the original appeal. ovals are over rated, 58-59 cars are where its at. It also commands much higher respect when one is correctly restored because parts are harder to find than an oval and also not reproduced- simply unavailable. I used to want a a 52 vert with crotch coolers, considered it my dream VW. but now, id never part with my 58 vert, Ive grown to realize what a special car it is!
so we are at 58 pages, gonna hit 59 soon! CONGRATULATIONS GUYS!! |
Well over 100 pages now...and I fully agree, there is something special about the 58-59 cars.
I got my 58 Ragtop 2 years ago with the intentions of cutting it up into a Volksrod...but lurking around in here (The Samba) has changed my mind and my heart. I had considered finding an Oval to restore but since have grown to love the 58...especially for it's uniqueness and style.
It's a huge project that started out missing some key components, but thanks to this thread I've been learning and collecting the correct parts. I have the skills to save this car and am looking forward to the challenge.
Also thanks to this thread I have learned that my car has it's original aprons and 3 of it's original fenders (although smashed and wrong lights)...I will attempt to save them.
