Hi guys, I'm just in the middle of the process reading thru the 112 pages of this topic Popcorn

As a "Nordic" myself, and also the owner of a couple of Swedish beetles I thought I had to comment on what you wrote way back on page 95:

I mean the correct rear tail lights for a 61 and earlier "nordic" delivered car could be either of the ones below. On the right is the swedish lens and on the left a regular snowflake.

Either the Swedish cars were equipped with the plastic "Swedish lens" OR the regular snowflake in combination with a pair of rear reflectors. Also the rear reflectors could be substituted with a special kind of wide red reflecting tape attached to the rear bumper. All this was set to meet legal requirements on reflection area when parked in the street lights out in the dark and/or driving in bad weather conditions.

So there were really three different options for the Swedish VW owners to go legal back in the days Wink

OR like this: Plastic lenses (possibly M-code 042) without reflectors/tape.

The reflaction tape could be used on any car in Sweden.
This is another example of a '54 Customline (Swedish built CKD) also needing bigger reflection area to meet the Scandinavian standards.

Just read thru all 112 pages Cool Great thread for reference. Pity though nearly one third of the pictures are gone missing due to not adding them to theSamba gallery in the first place Rolling Eyes

Acquired this –58 just the other day. Utterly rusty. Non-complete. Without title and other paper work. Rear deck lid, engine and rear apron pulled. Otherwise it seems very little tampered with, so I thought I’d post up it’s data and some characteristic references for the discussion.

VW 113 deluxe hardtop
Designated for the Swedish market
Paint: L 41 Black, upholstery: 50 blue-grey cloth
VIN: 1 923 743
Body: 276 512
Engine: NA
Axle #s non available. Covered under substantial undercoating…

Features on this vehicle:
* Snowflakes (which certainly meant additional reflectors also were mounted on the rear bumper for legal reasons)
* Aftermarket turn signals (“musöron” = “buds”) mounted over the semaphores (common Swedish practice in the late 1960’s)
* Old style front fenders with cable tubes, twin lower housing drain holes (with rubber plugs), accentuated square-ish edges towards the footrest mountings and ca 34cm radius on the top towards the middle of the wheel arch
* Rear fenders with dimples between the mounting holes
* Rear gravel guards (supposedly Swedish standard)
* Cigar-style ashtray
* Plastic sun visors with spear on the mounting
* Four tab front lid
* Period correct aftermarket windshield washer with one squirter in the center
* Right hand side windshield wiper points slightly more upwards than the left side one
* 13 mm fender screws front and rear
* Flat head screws holding the wiring cover
* Four finger front apron with 4 bolt hood look
* Four metal rails at the back of the rear seat
* Dual coat hangers
* Pointed lower fastening ends of the folding back rests
* Oval style folding backseat strap down
* Riveted VIN-tag with blank “Baujahr”-field
* “Made in Western Germany”-tag and two horizontal ribs behind the brake fluid reservoir
* Blinded right horn grille
* Engine compartment rubber drain hoses without metal tubes at the lower ends
* Front seat belts (Swedish made accessory. I have them on both my 1960’s too)
* No front sway bar
* No radio
* No passenger dash handle
* No fuel gauge
* No Eberspächer (more or less a delete option in Sweden)

As for the number of drain holes in the spare wheel well, you can’t really tell … very, very rusty … Confused

A fantastic car. This is proof that 58 and 59 Canadian custom cars came with cloth upholstery. If you're on F*book join the 58 59 group and post pics of your car as there are some doubters.

Did someone remove the front sway bar?

From what I know it should have one.

I got a 1958. (its a 30 year old barn find)

Needless to say it isn't OG. Has some of the og parts though on it. Most of the dash is original. Doors and front apron aren't. Convinced the car was a gutted shell for somebody else's project and the prior owner saved it form its death during the late 80's. Original decklid was punched.

However does have the cigar ashtray Cool And the Clear needle speedo and speedometer. I've acquired a right era steering wheel and button for it.

Can you post some pics of the interior?

Paint job looks pretty shinny, did it sit in the bar for 30-yrs with this paint job?

Looks like it has 65 and newer doors and seats, hood is also newer.

What is the knob/switch to the right of the ashtray in the pic above? I have that small hole there on my dash but nothing is in it.

Ok, that makes since since I don't have a choke on my carbs. I guess I will go ahead and enlarge that hole to make a 12v accessory outlet.

Did we discuss this? The blue door is from a August of 58 car and the green door is from a 59. Do you see the difference? Should I put the 58 door on my 59? Would this confuse the shit out of some future restorer?

The only difference I see between the 2 doors is the sheet metal at the rear of the inside door lock actuator rod covers the rod on the 59 door and is uncovered with a round indentation at the very end on the 58 door. I wonder why they made this change? Any other differences that I missed??

Thinking about installing popouts on my 59, but I don't know EXACTLY what parts I need to turn my OG rear windows into pop outs. Been searching the forums and all the questions seem to be either related to newer bugs.

I recently purchased a basket case 1958 Euro Rag (#2114936) Upon inspection I found the car to have a 1960 front beam. I have been trying to locate a period correct beam for the car. So far I have only located a 239... Mar/April 1959 beam. Can someone tell me if this beam would be correct or in what number range might be correct for the car?

I just bought this original paint 1959. My question is, are the wheels painted right? They have been repainted but I thought a 1959 was supposed to have a black outer hoop and a white inner hoop? Is that right?
