Hey guys,
I am rebuilding an engine at school for mechanics class. I thought it was a 1200cc but I have it all opened up now and I measured the pistons before ordering new rings for it and they are about 79 or 80mm and stock is 77mm? It also has bearings for the camshaft, I read somewhere that 1200s dont have bearings. The serial number is D001576 _________________ 1965 BAJA |

If you go up to the header and click on technical, then vin #'s, then type 1 and scroll down to 1965 it seems like thats what you have although you are missing a number. Double check the serial #. _________________ 63 T1 Ragtop Gulf Blue

Here is a picture of the slightly bigger piston?
Also for the serial # the D is not as clear as the rest of the numbers. It doesnt look like it was stamped but more like scratched in.
You can just see the top of the D in this pic, you can see it better its not a great cell phone pic. _________________ 1965 BAJA |

In front of the "D" is a VW symbol. Is the circle around it a series of arrows?
If so, it is a VW rebuilt unit. Let us know, give us a better picture.

Just checked today, it is a circle around it. _________________ 1965 BAJA |

If you have the bore size, you just need to measure the stroke.
bore divided by 2, square that, x 3.14, x stroke, x 4, divide by 1000. That is how many cc (divide by another 1000 for liters) |
