|
|
I use the search option but i don’t find anything about this,
I’m going to use a IRS tranny with swingaxles since I want the most same as a “freeway flyer” with my low budget (I know this tranny has the 3.88 ring and pinion) for my bug.
The convertion goes like this:
I’m going to disassembly the two trannys taking out the two rings and their satellite boxes,
In the IRS case i will set the satellite box of the “normal” tranny but with the ring of the IRS for use the axles of the “normal” tranny.
The only it’s:
For put the IRS ring in the satellite box you need to open (expand) the satellite box holes where the ring screws just pass trough, because the IRS one are thicker,
I need to buy the grade screws of the same thread of the IRS but shorters,
Did anybody know the size of the bolts that I need??? I think the grade of the thread it’s 8.
Thanks for your help… |

I think I understand what you want to do.
Start with a 1967 to 1970 swing axle tranny. The diff is already 8 bolt.
One of these trannys and your 3.87 IRS tranny can be combined together with out much trouble. |

You'll need to find a late swingaxle differential that is setup for the 8 bolt ring gear. The early swingaxles have a 6 bolt ring gear. Of course in Mexico you should have plenty of 8 bolt swingaxles since they used them up until the end of production. _________________ "In any racing engine, the nearer you are to it disintegrating, the better it's performance will be"

Guys, he's in Mexico. There aren't any 60s or 70s Beetles left there.

That advice is no good in Mexico. A "late" gearbox to them is a Brazilian made one. The bolts from that are M9, so they won't thread into the M10 holes of the 3.88. He needs to find an "early" GERMAN made Sedan transmision. _________________
