Just picked up a Thing a few weeks ago, first thing to do was get it down. Swapped in a stock bug beam with adjusters and drop spindles. wheels tires are 145/65r15 on stock bug smoothies. Now I want to go lower but am already scrubbing fenders under braking, so is there a small enough 15" tire to run? Should I try to find 14" wheels that clear the drop spindles? Or just remove the drop spindles (since the beam is all the way up right now anyway) run stock 14's and lower the beam way down? Would like to avoid the fender raise if possible, it's a little crusty in that area and would like to avoid a snowball effect of sheet metal work if possible lol. Didn't see many specs in here. Rear is 195/65r15 and 2 inner clicks. will probably run a 185/60r15 and another click down with notched plates. Any input is appreciated Smile

Thanks man...

Front: 4" narrowed beetle beam with dropped spindles and flipped tie rods. 5.5" wheels with 165 45r 15's

Back: 3 inner splines down one outer spline up. Notched spring plates and shaved the bump stop brackets (obviously no bump stops) shortened shocks. 5.5" wheels with 195 55r 15

The car is very stable and drives great...

That's Dave's wife in his car. He's on here but I don't know his user name.

I started this thread over 5 years ago when I bought my project Thing. Now I can finally add my car to the list! Still needs a few things dialed-in, but it's up and running - back on the road after 38 years. It was last registered in Texas in 1977 (sticker still on the windshield), and it was probably driven off-road for a few years, with 41,000 miles on the clock.
