I wouldn't coat it. You have no idea how much life is left in it, and these things rust from the inside out. If anything, I'd hit it with VHT and move on. I got a surprisingly good original style / OEM equivalent muffler at CIP for about $100, but I do miss my original Leistritz. _________________ *****************

Hmm. I was honestly thinking of something like this.
But I didnt want it to rust from the inside out like you said. My aftermarket exhaust is LOUD and I hate it. _________________ Oppenhiem

If it was me, I'd ceramic coat all of the crossover pipe, heater box parts, etc, but I wouldn't do the muffler, as they don't last as long, and coating won't be cheap. If it was new I'd consider it. It won't hurt anything but your wallet to coat the muffler too. That's just my .02, you have to decide for yourself what works for you. _________________ *****************

Hmm. Guess I'll look at VHT. They sell it at the FLAPS. Thanks for the tip. _________________ Oppenhiem

Nice Kirk! I hafta say that the German Supply kit looks awesome, and the timing was good too. Merry Christmas to you and Doodle.
Mrs Westfabulous got me a great set of stainless beauty rims for my bus; not as exciting as your stuff though. _________________ *****************

Thanks Dan! It does look pretty sweet. Pretty pricey, but I got exactly what I need to do it right once. That counts lots in my book. Now to choose a coating for the exhaust. _________________ Oppenhiem

I'm in the same boat. I'm pretty sure that I am going to ceramic coat mine, but I probably won't do the muffler as mufflers are pretty sacrificial and they usually rot from the inside out. _________________ *****************

How will you match the muffler to the other coated pieces? My OCD wouldnt allow them to be glaringly different. _________________ Oppenhiem

Ya, I get that. I am pretty OCD myself. When these cars were new, even the muffler and tailpipe was painted. From behind the car, only the muffler and tailpipe are visible, unless you look hard for the cat and crossover pipe. I will either leave it silver, or paint it with a grey VHT. The current silver is clean and maintenance free; once it's painted, a whole new world of care and maintenance opens up as you try to keep it looking respectable over time. I like the idea of ceramic coating the muffler, but I don't want to pay $100 to have it rot out. Jmstu76's rotted out. I may just opt to leave the muffler and tailpipe silver. _________________ *****************

No updates. Went to the car wash located at the corner of a busy intersection. Normally I bucket wash, but I love showing off for the masses every now and then.

Nice! You tryin' to show everyone up Kirk? Boy, the competition is getting tough around here. By the way, what are those triangular Rubick's Cube stand looking things stuck to your cabinets? Is this some ultra rare VW accessory that I'm going to be all jealous about? _________________ *****************

Very nice! I'm jealous of your overriders. The tires are 195/75/14 BFG All Terrains. The wheels are the originals to the bus, powdercoated in "Liquid Silver". Start a thread on your bus and lets see it! _________________ Oppenhiem

He/you can order them from TireCrawler.com, and have them shipped to where he is. Their price seems to be cheaper than what I've seen online elsewhere.
