The driver's door to my 67 is kind of locked and won't open either from inside or out. Can't lift the inside lock button, the outside pushbutton goes in all the way without resistance and the inside handle moves though about 40% of its travel and then hits a hard stop. I've searched the forum and the closest thread I've found for my situation is http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=455003 but I'm unable to trip the mechanism from inside the door (I have the door panel off). It's like the lock mechanism is stuck halfway. I've had the door latch out in the last year to fix the broken pin issue so the whole thing is pretty darn clean and it was working well until today. I could lock/unlock the door with the key and with the inside button. The interior button won't move at all now. I can turn the key in the outside lock but nothing's happening.

BTW, I blame my dog for doing something to the interior lock button while he was climbing from the back seat to the front while I was in the sandwich shop picking up lunch. He prefers to wait in the driver's seat.

Any help or suggestions will be gratefully accepted.

Punch the dog repeatedly until he tells you what he did or if he knows who did it. Worked with insurgents. Shocked

When was the last time you sprayed PB blaster in that lock mechanism?

When was the last time your dog had a good beat down?

This happened a couple weeks ago in my 67. I ended up pulling the front seats out, then pulling drivers door panel(while door was still closed) and pushed up on the lock from inside the door frame. Made sure it was all cleaned and lubed so this wouldn't happen to me again. It is fixable!

If it's not the actual exterior handle itself (or its components).....
Sounds like the same thing that happened to my former '67 Squareback. I needed to replace the lock mechanism. Not reproduced, but there are plenty available in the classifieds

I believe you can get the newer ones and adapt them to the 67 easily. The one pictured is a 65-66.

...but even a replacement unit requires lube. Wink
