It probably runs hot also without the proper engine tin to direct air over the cooling fins. |
There is no OEM factory engine tin for a type I motor in a Vanagon chassis. Custom sheet metal to separate the hot air of the motor from going into the cooling fan intake. |
Oh really? Gee, I thought a 1971 upright was a Vanagon engine option.
Even their lame attempt at a "custom" engine tin is leaving huge gaps. All air cooled vw engine compartments were carefully sealed between the cool side and the hot side. _________________ Currently:

If anyone is interested, Martha Stewart is selling her van:
http://sacramento.craigslist.org/cto/4913993577.html
In all seriousness, it's not my taste, but it is a pretty cool van. $28,500 dollars cool though? I'm guessing not....
Who knows though. It has been beautifully upscaled, err upcycled whatever that means, and has gleaming heads

WTF is 'upcycled'? Is that a new California thing? _________________ '84 Vanagon GL 1.9 WBX

Sounds like (and looks like) she's been reading Sunset magazine a little bit too much. _________________ Going to where the grass is bluer...

According to Google:
Upcycling is the process of converting old or discarded materials into something useful and often beautiful.

I'm so glad somebody sells original used fuel line connectors, because I need my van to be all original. "vanagon fuel line nipple Price: 10
this is the nipple that attaches to the wall in the engine compartment. Buyer pays for shipping" |

I saw this one on Chicago craigslist months ago. Looks like the seller headed to a more lucrative marketing area.
1986 Volkswagen Westfalia Syncro - 2004 Subaru Outback Engine - $109000 (Seattle)

Why do people even post pictures like this, much less expect to get $40K for it?!

I would be curious to see the documentation on this. When I sent in all the information on my 1985 Jadgwagen (jagdwagen #1) to the VW bus heritage project in Hanover they sent me back a nice letter about the truck and mentioned that is was "one of the first 100 syncro's built". My truck was built in 1984 and has ceramic fuses, 1.9L engine and round headlights. It also has some unique front control arms that I believe are only on very early syncros.
Also I do not know of anybody outside of VW that has the information on syncro production. AFAIK they did not have sequential VIN's. The numerical digits on the end of the vin would have been in line with daily production of all T3s. _________________ Please do not message me on TheSamba. Use my email, [email protected] |

I love when someone posts in their add, something like this
Please respect my time. Serious buyers only that are ready to purchase.
Calls and texts only.
but they can't spell the name of the vehicle correctly or list a Syncro with Automatic Transmission.

Used car dealer expecting top dollar for an ok Tintop.
this van might be worth half what they are asking at most. I can't image this van is going anywhere anytime soon.

There are similar vans on our local CL from private owners for way less unsold for months now.
