This isn't a whine, just hoping for some feedback.

This syncro is being sold by a dealer near me http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1768442

I haven't seen this particular syncro discussed on the site, and was wondering if this is in line with typical asking prices from dealerships - most comparables I've found are private sellers, or of course GoWesty.

And, hi I'm new here - 1st post. Been browsing for a while and trying to educate myself about the "fun" we would be getting into if we end up as Vanagon owners.

thanks much!

I'm pretty sure that Syncro was for sale out west not too long ago. Believe it sold for 32k. The pics on the previous ad showed a poor paint job most likely covering rust. There was overspray on the carpeting.
Check the pic in the current ad of the open passenger side door and you'll notice red paint on the door latch that should be unpainted brass/gold color.
Also, by looking at the engine compartment you can see rust in there which would lead me to believe there is more rust underneath.
At the very least I'd ask for many many photos of the undercarriage. Interestingly they don't provide those shots.

David Clymer may not be too happy about this.

Always curious to see a MPH speedometer in a LHD European import (vin ZZZ) and a claim of documented milage on a Jersey title.
Any LHD vehicle from Europe will have a Kilometer speedo. Also a clean car fax report only means it has no records here in America since it's been imported.
We've seen this kind of misrepresentation before.
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1780504

I'd like a closer look at the speedo on this Syncro too;

I really hate when I see a Vanagon I sold for the exact money I had in it re-listed here or on ebay for almost twice what I sold it for with no additional improvements made. Guess I'm old fashioned because I think of owning these vehicles as sort of a club. and I welcome a new member so I treat them like a friend when I sell a Vanagon. Its also a shame because this vehicle is no way worth more than I sold it for.

sorry, just venting

$24k for a tin top syncro with no mention about the engine at all, so I assume it's completely stock and probably never rebuilt.

Also, is it just me or did he put the mirrors on the wrong side Confused

^^^ Wow. My identical 86 Syncro was listed on CL for about half that and I paid about a third of that in 2013.
I guess you can always ask.

This when you call them up and they inform you that they forgot an extra zero at the end. "Oops, our bad. Are you still interested?"

This van surfaces every so often. I first saw it about three years ago listed in CostaRica for about 13k. It has been bought used for travel and marked up about 4 times now.

"Trying to see where the market is..."
Dude, just put it on Ebay in that case and let the market decide.

1991 vanagon odometer: 130000 paint color : red type : van drive : rwd fuel : gas transmission : manual title status : clean cylinders : 4 cylinders

condition: good

Trying to see where the market is on these Carat Vanagons. I picked this one up as a possible project to convert to TDI diesel. I have since found a poptop that I want to do instead.
I will update pictures and conditions as I get into the mechanics. Have a little over $4000 invested
Thanks

^^^ Small world. That is a couple blocks from where I live. I emailed the seller and will try to get with him to chat, not interested in buying.

I don't know much about Eurovans, but that seems really steep.
