You can get a ragged Weekender with only a few check ups in the last 5 years for 14K:

It's very disearable to be sure, ( especially with those factory original bumpers that he forgot to mention, even more disearable when they're missing the end caps ) super rare, and won't last long at that price.

Last chance in this one.
It looks way overpriced and there is minimal details in the description and the pics are all from 25 feet away. I'd rather see a pic of the underside than any of the pics that are posted. The white is probably covering a lot of body work. Slider door track tells the story. Big rust hole in the rear hatch too.
There's a reason it's been up since July. Right now there seems to be a lot of stale ads in the classifieds.

Yup, if I was a gambling man I'd bet good money that thing is a rust bucket.

Remember, you don't want to post pics with close up shots. You want something from afar that will trick potential buyers into viewing your overpriced van and wasting everyone's time.

Seems to me like a Syncro that has had some substantial investment put into it. Yes far from a show winner. But before you go bashing it, send off your drivetrain and have it rebuilt with lockers, and a decoupler. Then do a diesel swap, and a host of other equipment. I don't know if it is a POS that is rung out or an awesome rig. It could be either? All I see is an ad. If it is a solid runner you will be hard pressed to buy a rig and build it for that amount. Do you have some first hand insight into this persons rig? If you do, props for sparing an unaware buyer.

Are the market prices that much different between Europe and the US anymore, or are EU prices now raised for US buyers who shop in the usual online places?

A nice syncro Tristar seemed reasonable to import a few years ago, but now they seem to ask US prices right off the bat, and then we would have to pay all the transport, shipping, and licensing/DOT conversion costs on top of that.

Cost prohibitive now for most folks I would think. What could one expect to pay for a nice syncro Tristar if you lived in Europe?

Hello all!
I am a new member on this Forum.
I wonder what a fair value of my 1989 VW Caravelle C Syncro would be in the US. Here is a link to my thread so you can see what she looks like.
She has a front and a rear difflock.

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=645282

She has 240.000km on the Engine.
Works nice no Issues, never had any rust.

Might be interested in taking a nice US car from the 50, 60 or early 70th
for a trade. Pickups, musclecars. Very Happy

Regards
Magnus

Hi Magnus, I'd say that van is worth somewhere between 12000 to 16000 USD. The prices for Syncros have defiantly been on a slow but steady climb for the last few years as they cross into the "collector" segment of the market.
The dual locker is a plus. The front bench seat is a drawback in my opinion. Bear in mind also that price is after it is shipped here and the paperwork is taken care of. The pricing is more favorable on the stuff we never got here like Dokas, Jokers etc. as they are rarer here. VW sold plenty of hardtop and westy syncros in the US so finding rust free ones is not that hard.
