.01% don't ride much in used/second hand vehicles, it's typically for those that don't mind slaving 1-3 years of their lives for an object

Three years' salary and only rice and beans might just about swing the west coast syncro. And no beer. _________________ 1990 Syncro 16" DoppleKabine 2.1 DJ 112i

rice and beans I would go for, but no beer while camping is a no no, if I want to go camping off the beaten path that much I'll get myself a tent and a used jeep for fraction of a price

Clearly not the .01% when selling at a loss so quickly.

I love how everyone's "dream syncro" is usually for sale not long after they finish building it. I would much rather buy a car with 20-30k miles on the engine than a "fresh" rebuild.
My dream car doesn't include TV's either. I haven't even watched the one in my house in 6 months... I'm currently building my dream van. I wish it wasn't rusty, but it's what I can afford to start with. And even after the money is put into it, I won't sell it. You'll have to pry the steering wheel out of my dead cold hands _________________ 1986 Canadian Syncro Westy TDI - 1989 Syncro Single Cab - 2001 Audi S4 - 1981 VW Caddy ABA - 1980 VW Caddy EV - 1973 VW T-181 |

Yup, both ads I posted say selling at a loss.
Putting them on eBay at auction or Barrett Jackson would surly show true market value.
Who knows, Richard Rawlings does OK, sometimes |

I know right?
Spend 4 years having an apparently $150 K van built. Take for 1 trip across country, with zero side trips (3000 miles)
And then sell it? |

The reason I am selling it is 2 fold a side business venture of mine recently tanked and my brother's unexpected passing has left his widow and 4 children with some major expenses that I have promised to help with. So the sale of the van comes with a great deal of pain and I have tried to figure out another way to raise the needed funds so I would not have to sell the van but nothing I have that I could sell would cover the needs.
I know that the van's worth every penny but I also know that there are not a lot of people who could or would make such a large purchase so I am trying to see what my options are. |

I hate when tough breaks come in twos.
Good luck with the sale. The van sure does look like everything was done correctly.
Who the hell are we to say it's not worth your asking price?
How many high end syncros exist?
How many for sale at a given time?
Seems like there have to be at least a few buyers who fit the bill. |

Thanks for the kind words. March 16th marked the 3rd year anniversery of his death and since that time my side business failed leaving debts + expenses I am trying to cover to help my brother's family. If I come up with other options I will certainly hold on to the Syncro. My kids are begging me not to sell. Thanks again. |

God bless you my man. Possessions come and go, but family is everything...wish ya'll the best.
Just bought my first VW, glad to finally be part of the community. Have always been an admirer of the Westfalia and I'm stoked to actually own one. 2 days ago, I picked up an 87 Westy 2WD, full camper. Bought it from the son of the original owner. Fresh engine, clutch, brakes, PS. all the camper stuff works, canvas in good shape. Couple minor spots of surface rust, needs a new MAF and oil plug but other than that she's about 85-90% there.
PO said that he had it advertised in CL for about 3 months and had been looking for $14k originally. Picked it up for $9k which I think is probably more in the ballpark...and considering that was all I had in the budget, it worked out lol. Have big plans for the old girl, have a new MAF and oil plug on the way, charged up the AC, already ground out most of the rusted spots (plenty more needed), probably send her in for a new coat of paint at some point. Have my eye on an awning for her as well and have kicked around the idea of a locker or more likely a limited slip.
Anyway, punching out for now but I will post pics of my "shade tree" body work when I really get into it.
