From what I think I understand, the Bostig conversion is NOT legal in CA... period.

It's a project but not a rust bucket. I found a less rusty one so this one can be someones spring/summer project.
Rear window needs replacement (because it's not there).
Drivers door not locking/latching
A few of the interior ducts have been removed (but they are there in the van) to track down an electrical problem that came about by a resident mouse. (Mouse no longer with us).
Said mouse ate a few small holes in the canvas roof, maybe some wiring and the skylight privacy screen and front privacy curtain a little.
I would...
Remove the interior which is partially done already and clean/seal the interior.
Remove running gear and underside rust and treat with fluid film.
Replace the 2.1 engine with a Subaru 2.5
That's the important part. After that, sky's the limit.
Yes it will need to be towed... |
And the seller wants $13K for it?!
And for the 100th time, it's Titian Red! _________________ ~Kamz

And also a huge piece of $hit.
Seriously, do you honestly think anyone with a little common sense would spend that kinda cash on a vehicle that will need a tow to get it home.
I guess the up side is if he does get his asking price the value of my rig just went up big time. _________________ 87 Syncro w/EJ22 |

not sure this is much of a whine, though it may be a bit over priced in it's albinoesque monochromatic glory.

There is a lot I really like about this van, but for $47,000 you would think they would at least vacuum it out before posting pictures.
The interior of the pop top also looks like it is really dirty or worse, and the front bumper is crooked.

Love the colour and lift, but those front-mounted fog-lights look pretty janky, and that headliner is gross!
And unless i'm mistaken, this is a 2.1WBX rebuilt? for $47K? I'd expect a Subaru or something in there... _________________ '91 Syncro 16 Reimo Hightop Conversion, eTDI |

I used to see that van every day. It was owned by the people who owned a diner down the street from where I used to work. Walking past it every day planted the seed in my head to upgrade to a syncro! _________________ 89 Syncro GL Westfalia 2.1 WBX/WBXaustSS

I HAD two clients hell bent to purchase this DOKA and throw about 20 grand at it, until I asked the owner a few basic questions.
His response was so rude and acquising me of smoking too much pot, that I quickly talked my clients into a much better builder.
If you look very carefully you will see two HUGE errors in the newly installed upgrade parts.
Stick to Rovers Dude, you have no business working on Syncros
The Bostig examples he has of "buddies" in Cali running that conversion will have Nevada tags or are completely bootlegged and since he was such a dick to me, I am eagerly awaiting finding out who his Buddies are. I have Buddies too, they work for Cali DMV
But no one is to worry.
In his last message to me he made it very clear that the vehicle WILL be sold once everyone sees his amazing work at Syncrofest this year.
We shall see. |

Why do people post vans for sale in the classifieds here with the price as pending sale?
These are brand new ads, no price, just "pending". |
