Here are a few pages from "und wer das Leben uber hat, fahrt Goliath... Autos aus Bremen II Lloyd Arabella und Die Goliath PKWs"
By Peter Kurze
Top is Rudy version... (check out his cool vent window hinging!) lower are Rometsch versions I think... look for the badge to be sure I suppose
this last one is of the body builder Rudy... who built the first version of this car.

What is really cool about these Goliath gp700's ... is that they were the first gasoline direct inject cars. Before the mercedes 300SL. Bosch built the injection units. Goliath built a weird rennwagen with this engine... a triangular 3 wheeler. Crazy design.
Mercedes claims to be the first to use gasoline fuel injection in sports cars... but there's was a few years later.
check wikipedia on fuel injection history
These things are milestone cars for this reason in my opinion.
Porsche Gmunds were pretty similar to this shape... designed at the same time basically... maybe a few months earlier... but Porsche wouldn't get to the one piece windshield for a couple more years. |

So were there no VW parts installed on these cars originally? I get that the car in the pictures had Beetle running gear retrofitted later on. _________________ Check my classifieds for kewl gauges:

Original, the GP 700 E Sportcoupé didn't has someting to do with Volkswagen - only a few little items like the doorhandles or the windercranks are the same. After technical Problems in reason of getting spareparts, the body moved on to an old 1964 VW beetle Chassis. Christian got a GP 700 Stationwagon with the Coupé, a car which is today as rare as a Beeskow.
Goliath was a part of the Borgward group, a legendary car company which was owend in family hands of its founder Carl F. Borgward. After Financial Problems in reason of too much invested money for new products, the Company was canceled. Actually, Mercedes Benz owns the old buildings and produce cars like the Baby-Benz "C-Model", Station-Wagons or the SL.
A Lot of engeneers and mechanics mooved from Bremen to Wolfsburg and started at Volkswagen Factory. In their luggage, they had a lot of knowledge and inovation. The McPherson frontaxle of the Big beetles is a Souvenir from the Borgward workers. They constructed this axle for a new Borgward car. The son of Carl Borgward was a famous engeneer at Volkswagen, another Part of the Borgward Family owns a famous kontor for Drinks here in Wolfsburg.
The GP 700 is not directly a Volkswagen - but Volkswagen has a lot of connecting points with the Borgward Group. |

Here´s an article I have in an car mag from jan. 1952.
It´s about german coachbuild cars.
There is the Rometsch Goliath.
And a cool Drews that looks like VW based but is on Ford technics as they say there.
The text for the Goliath says it is a VW based sporty looking car and they also made Goliath based convertibles. That seems a bit mixed up while we know it was the other way round. _________________ Master of my domain! |

I have seen the car in real live today and a other finished beauty !
The goliath is a real beauty , I know for sure this car will be restored the same way as the beeskow coupé !
The beeskow coupe is just perfect ! Now they can start at the 51 beeskow cabrio ! I already see those two beeskows painted in the same color !
Thanks Christian for showing the cars and thanks for the invitation for next wendsday !

Can't just be "luck". It's luck, skills, resources, respect, dedication. A tremendous combination that is producing some magnificent results. _________________ Central Jersey VW Society

I am not sure I understand your question......
Are you referring to the text on the bottom right of the page? If yes, that text is referring to the pictures on the next page of the book (not shown). _________________ ( ⫏ ⫐ )
