I have a '71 super. Every once and a while it would get the "super shimmy" around 45mph. Wouldn't always do it, just randomly. This past Saturday I put new brakes on the car and now it's gone. Hasn't done it since. Does this seem odd? Not complaining by any means, just seems strange.

Your joints and bushings might be just on the verge, and maybe you had a loose brake drum that had just enough play to send it over the edge?

Not sure; that's odd.

Have you rectified the mismatch rear fenders?

Bent drums and wheels have re-aligned the planets when re-installed in new location. Perhaps just rotated a lug nut or two.

Short lived magic.

No. I emailed 3 different people on Craigslist that were parting out cars about some OG ones and haven't heard anything from any of them. I also went to the local VW scrap yard after work on Friday cause I know they have some, but they were closed.

My super had a slight random shimmy that went away when I figured out the front wheel bearings were just a hair loose.
