Does anyone have any personal experience with this heater core?

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=830594

I understand that VW may be re-making the original heater core but it's too late in our case. We installed an "aftermarket" core that does not perform well at all and needing to install a different one.

Thanks!

I just installed one of TK's last month and it's pretty bomber. Much beefier than the stock one, and throws plenty of heat. As far as the install, it's not too difficult - just takes some time. Check out Ben's website for directions on removing the dash & heater box.

Does it take longer to get warm over the stock unit? Is it hotter or about the same as the original ?

There was a thread describing, with pictures several options for front heater core replacement, I believe all under $100 for new units and I seem to remember all from various Ford Models.
I did a search but could not find the thread again. If you are overwhelmed by the search feature as I am sometimes, pm me I have the pictures and references on my other computer and I'll email them to you.

Good luck Smile

I'd say it's at least as good as the stock core - both heating up and output temp. I had a bit of trouble getting all the air out of it when I filled and bled the system, but once that got sorted out it's been great. A bit spendy, but it will be the last front heater core you'll ever need. I didn't want to skimp on anhything. I originally removed the dash to replace the front blower, but "while I was in there" I decided to refurbish the whole heater box - new motor, core, and foam weatherstripping. I didn't want to have to remove the dash more than once. Now it's like new.
