PostPosted: Thu Apr 15, 2010 9:46 pm    Post subject: Quarter mile times and/or 0-60 times on daily drivers Reply with quote

Hello, looking around through the forums I couldnt really find any one forum that summarizes our rides and what our quarter mile times/0-60 times are comparing to new cars on the road.
So i figured I would start a thread on this. More specifically Daily drivers only. Yes i know all you VW pros out there are awesome and we all wish we could be like you but we all cant be under the hood of our cars every other week and spend alot of money on awesome engines!!! So daily drivers only please......

I have always wanted to know how other VW's compare to other makes and models on the road. Yes I know we are comparing 40+ year old technology against newer cars but still cool to see how we compare!!!

To set the bar here are some modern exotic/european/muscle/japanese stats we can compare against. Now dont be shy, if your vw isnt anywhere near these numbers who cares!!!! I wanna see stock 36hp engines here too!!!!
I dont think a daily will get close to these numbers but its just a fun little thing we can all take a look at!! Hell if i can get a 0-60 time in the 6.3-6.5 second range and quarter mile time in the low 14sec range I think I am rockin in comparison to these cars!!!

Ferrari 430 2009 Camaro
4.3L V8 3.6L V6
0-60=4 sec 0-60=6.1 sec
1/4 mile=12.4@115mph 1/4 mile=14.2@98mph

2009 ford mustang GT 2002 hyundai tiburon
4.6L V8 2.6L V6
0-60=5.2 sec 0-60=7 sec
1/4 mile=13.8@103mph 1/4 mile=15.4 sec@???

2009 Nissan 350Z 2010 Scion tc
3.5L V6 2.4L I-4
0-60=5.6 sec 0-60=7.2 sec
1/4 mile=13.7@104mph 1/4 mile=15.7@88mph

2009 BMW 328 2009 VW gti
3.0L V6 2.0L I-4
0-60=6.3 sec 0-60=6.9 sec
1/4 mile [email protected] 1/4 [email protected]

Anyway if you guys could please input your quarter mile time, 0-60 time, engine used tranny used etc. in this format:

Engine
Tranny
0-60 time (it doesnt have to be exact just what you timed yourself if anything)
Quarter mile time (same as above)

Let this be some fun and see how we stand. Oh PS this thread is open to type 1,2,3 and 4's......lets see what everyone has!!!

you are setting the bar really high... for a stock late model type one, you might be better off pulling up the performance specifications of the Geo/chevy metro... the type one is a little slower than that... Laughing

I ran 12.45 @ 103 with my 2276. Was driving it almost daily until I found the crack in the block. The 1915 I had before probably wasn't much slower.

My car is a DD, stock 1500. But I haven't taken it to a dragstrip.

Can we post 0-60mph times that are taken by someone else in the car with a stopwatch?

This morning I used the stopwatch on my phone to check my 0-60mph time.

16.98 seconds!

That's with a stock 1500sp, 4speed, 1/2 tank of fuel and no passengers

good idea boss.....my hummer runs 24mpg with a 2007cc air cooled engine.....
how about we just keep it to what the thread is.....
I find it very interesting to see how a 40+ year old engine performs against today's standards....i have been pleasantly surprised until now.....

"40 year old engine" and "performance" do not go together. Wink Stock, anyway. Modified? Sure, but then its not a "40 year old engine" any more.

40 years ago 0-60 in the mid-teens was plenty good enough for traffic. Now it seems anything with two digits is considered "slow."

I'm fine with "slow."

I'm kind of surprised the original topic didn't last more than 2 weeks the first time around in April 2010.

My Notch, after I installed an all new engine, consistently did 0-60 in 15 seconds, with a best of 14.7 sec. According to at least one repair manual, that model did 0-60 in 21 sec with a 1500 cc and single port heads and single side draft carb.

My engine is 1678 with dual Type 3 Solex, stock dual port heads, 7.27 compression, lightened flywheel, and at least 35 lbs of tools and junk in the trunks.
