|
|
| my friend recently got into a fender bender in his 2002 Volvo XC70 station wagon and it was beyond repair as far as he was concerned. he said if i was interested i could have the engine. i did some research and i'm pretty sure its a 2.4L 5cyl Turbo. i dont know much at all about engines so this could be a pretty dumb question, but besides engineering a cooling system, would this engine work in a bug? |

You will need an ECU for the motor and most likely you can get the one in the car to work. You will also need an adapter to hook it up to a bug tranny. _________________ “It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.”

If it's the B5244T, I believe that's a transverse mounted aluminum block. Looks like ECU troubles (error codes) unless transmission is hooked up.
Are you planning on using the volvo transmission? that would be neat!
But to answer your question, If you are going to use the volvo transmission, it should work. I don't know about fitment, CV adaptment, trans output placement, etc. But all things to think about.
Or you could sell it and get a subaru _________________ My Build Page |

| i hadnt really thought too much about tha transmission, just hoping there would be an adapter for the srtock tranny i have right now, but are you saying that because of the ecu the motor wont run without the volvo's transmission? |

That is what he is saying. I don't know this for fact but I think you are not going to be able to find an adapter for that motor.
I would personally love to something like this happen but I would not go down that road due to lack of parts/ support. _________________ “It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.”

Yes, There are reports that a stock ECU will have troubles without the transmission. AND, I didn't see any adapters to a VW transaxle.
Trnaslated from German, I think. This was a boat swap with aftermarket ECU. It talks about ECU on page 13, i think.

Good news is that there is a market for good used volvo engines as some of the performance crowd is using this engine for a swap into their older cars.
Google it for a month or two and let us know what you find out _________________ My Build Page |
