Engine amd chassis info

I just acquired this vw chassis dune buggy
Pan # is 111 218 452 7
Cant find a engine code other than the one in pics
Any help is appreciated

It's a Type 3 engine, the serial number is on the top of the case.

Chassis number put it about September 1970 and engine serial number should be along case split line near fuel pump.......

THE 311 number on fan shroud is just the part number...

Wasn't the first EFI type 3 1968? If the engine is all original it will be '67 or older.

Yes, my Clymer shop manual for 1962-73 squareback & fastback corroborates this for US. (Maybe for North America too?)

So at the very least, this puts the dual carburetors at 1964-67.

Just trying to remember what year type 3s went dual port heads. My sister had a '66 but I cannot recall the intake configuration. I should know too... something in the back of my mind tells me it was.
