Interesting, Todd! It seems that many oem components in the automotive industry share very common configurations. I already noticed this with your Chrysler steering column retrofit and just how similar the Chrysler part was to the VW part. Now this wiper motor with common bolt pattern and shaft design just further proves the point.

Keep up the good work!

I finally finessed the pump connections--now I am waiting for 2 idler bearings from texas at 37.00 each compared to the serpentine tensioner bearing at 8.00 ea. maybe I can do a mod for the latter in the former. but I'm moving forward now.

put the wipers back on and the courtesy lamps are coming along--I want to convert the headlights to my 92 Toyota pickup--they are the exact same shape and dimensions, but they are sealed halogen beams with no o-rings to fail. just when I get close to being driveable, I decide to solve something else..but she needs back on the road as the trep just boiled over slightly and her engine needs the reseal treatment. so balance calls it--next week I'll be on the road again

just liberated said van from mcpeek dodge in Anaheim and after a diagnostic for dying with any gas pedal, it was found that I cut a 5 volt feed wire from the brain within a 3 wire tail that fed an unemployed low speed Chrysler radiator fan plug that was sticking out of the bundle just north of the ac pump. in my "why not" paring excersize, I effed myself. Without the feed there, which was spidered in and should have just been taped up, the throttle position and manifold absolute pressure sensors were starved of voltage and the engine would not move from start mode to run mode.
another lesson for the archive. I believe it was a violet/white wire. pcm pin number 6. I have been so stressed out thinking this could kill the project that I tortured myself with dread. only after I fealt her on the road heading south did I realize just how miserable I no longer was.
I am after the fuel tank remedy next, with bedseat mixed in.
in a month I will take her back for a transaxle diagnostic to find out why the converter doesn't lockup until 84 mph. 42 is normal. its not a young trans. but it will make me proud at the pump again.

it does have a lower deck to clear the coolant tubing and the shifter on the left. It probably is, but I need a stock looking bottom with not only a modern pump module, but the shape to fit around the upgrades.

I still haven't been back to the ref as I spun a rod bearing on july third--#5 cylinder. I thought it was a lifter at first and drove it 6 miles home as it really started banging and I shut it off. the piston was hitting the head, as seen here on the center piston [light spots], but not enough to damage it. the heads got rebuilt and a light surfacing with new seals

and before this happened, I drove her back to the driveway I first found her in, in Belmont shore, California, that june 12, 2010

and just 3 scant years later with almost everything reengineered

I also worked out a mod for the headlight adjusters with a cv type floating nut design and a surfaced pair of 8mm nuts that socket the adj screws--all steel parts

So, I tore her down to the short block and sent her out to the engine builder-in early august. -10-10 crank on the rod journals and a polish on the mains--reusing the 5 pistons and rods and replacing the 0ne piston and rod-[I would have reused the piston]
new bearings and freeze plugs, block clean and lump returned, no oil pump or heads, $1700.00.
the cylinders got honed as they had no lip. new rings as well..
does this seem excessive?
gregor paid 1500 for a ford focus crate motor with no intake or exhaust. long block with head and belt. I will control costs better on the hi output motor next time.
trans was rebuilt with the heavy service kit for 800.00. ivan said it was all worn out inside--clutches, servpac and bearings. so I will see how she feels when I go back to my ref. the shifter cable issue will get a remedy with a one piece cable. fuel tanks are switched, so she looks a little more original from underneath.
the fish story I got was that the old man working my engine in machining has cancer and took a lot of time off. I will do this better next time. bitchen [craig] had a local rod shop that could have gotten this out with a new sized rod for maybe 800 to 1k.
I learn best when I stub my toes. engine hasn't come back from the machinist yet, even though it was promised today to me from last week--my engine guy went to vegas last weekend, so I think that's where his pricing is motivated from.
I haven't had this kind of work done for over 25 years, so it's almost like starting over.

fukushima/japan is getting worse--#4 reactor is melting down and they don't know how to stop it--
