I've been squinting at the pictures of the zero mile 1972 Baja SE that is at the WCM Museum in California.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

If you look along the bottom left edge of the body section (exactly to the left of the catch portion of the engine cover latch) there is a label there.

I have no idea what it says, or what it is. But I'm in the final lap of the engine compartment portion of my restoration, and would like to add it.

Does anyone know what this label is? (If you're just guess, please say you're guessing.)

Thanks!

M

Why not just call the museum? They're probably just sitting around waiting for someone to call.

Have you ever actually tried to get knowledgeable assistance from WCM? From one of the phone flunkies? They are order takers.

The 'museum' is the personal collection of the owner, who does not answer the phone. They call it a museum, so I figured I'd play along with the gag.

So, let's try this again....

Is there anyone on the Samba who knows what the sticker is?

M

I'm Guessing..... but might it be the valve gap sticker?
they're normally on the shroud to the right of the aircleaner
but may have been put there instead for better visibility

either that or looks vaugely like the 12volt stickers the bugs here had in the door jams

Squint at this:

So far as I can tell this is the only general shape that fits.

But I've also never *ever* seen one of these in place on any VW. And I've been herding German steel for a quarter century.

Does anyone know more about this particular sticker?

M, the 3 of my 74 bugs with original paint inside have had a sticker like that but it was in the door jam above the interior light switch and the number was 206 from memory

anyone know what it means?

my white super still has it but now covered in overspray Evil or Very Mad

Interesting. Karte means 'map' in german. Even if this doesn't turn out to be my culprit, I'd be very curious to know what it meant.

This is the correct sticker. It is a diagnostic sticker used when the car passed a diagnostic inspection at PDI (Pre Delivery Inspection). The car was plugged into a huge computer system and that is the "All Systems Go" decal.

Thanks DD. I figured it would be one of the old hands who weighted in.

Any idea what the 207 is about?

I guess this means I try again to get jim to return my messages. I've been trying to get him to make me some stickers for 9 months!

Maybe 207 is the inspector number? Like "Inspected by No. 5"?

Was this sticker specific to only on the Baja edition that you know of - or did other cars have one as well? Of all the old archive and ad photos.. tha is the first time I have seen any decal there.
It's a little weird in that spot IMO.. but cool never less.

Thanks Darby for telling us what the 207 sticker means. Saw those in a lot of junker 74's for a long time. I asked a long-time employee at a dealership once if he knew what those stood for. He couldn't remember.

Thanks. It looks like there are two places it might have been found on the body: either the door jamb or the ledge of the engine compartment.
