I have one that is real interesting. It had been painted pink, and then it had been repainted orange -- from the factory! Tonka in Toronto must have gotten a shipment of pink bodies that Tonka had determined were a tough sell to boys, so the body was repainted orange right over the pink, and the Tonka Toronto sticker affixed to the back. With playwear, the pink is visible under the orange paint!

If it were mint in the box I probably would not be able to tell. It's playworn, but not played with to death. You can clearly see the pink paint under the orange.

We also have a mint-boxed light green Tonka Beetle from Toronto, and a sad white repaint over what looked to be a dead mint Toronto Beetle. (Somebody might have wanted a Herbie?) All of these cars came from a stash of old VW toys we bought in Northern Ontario last year.

Hi Bigtonkakid,

Really like your collection. I'll like to collect all those great looking tonka truck but you know, we need money for this.

I try to see which tonka bug you have. I can see a blue one in the top left corner. Send us some detail picture of your tonka bug. We would like to see which one you have.

Also, last week on ebay, there were a pair of tonka prototype bug that was made of wood an hard plastics:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&...&rt=nc

There were expensive but they are true, they could be the only one!!!

Hi crukab,

Really love the original box. We don't see them really often. There are some on ebay but they are really expensive. If I can find an original box alone, I think I would bought it to put in my collection.

If i'm interested in a trade, sure!!! Show me other tonka you have to trade too. Any tonka tote?

I know that the Tonka VW's came out in late 1965, but what "Year" are they supposed to represent, 64 or 65? The rear window doesn't look big enough to be the larger version that was introduced in 65, but then we are talking about a toy, any ideas?

Thanks
Terry

Your guess is as good as ours. I would lean toward the bigger windowed '65. (And with the flatter hubcaps, possibly a '66!)

Hi OvalinAz, Those blue bug without license light where use in the mighty car carrier. They stop to sell them alone in a box when they introduce the big bug with the engine in the back. If you can find the red one you will have the duo.

Hi all,

It's been a while since that II write something here. But this weekend, I put some new addition. Here they are:

First of all, this great looking teal one. nearly perfect (only two scratch). IT's missing the headlight but I have some on the way. The cool thing his that the tonka sticker is looking good in the back (from Canada):

It's been a while that I try to find a perfect exemple to help me reproduce them. There are some tonka truck reproduction sticker but not alot about other tonka.

An other addition, This great looking Twinkle toes. What was good about it are those headlight. I have now three canadian exemple with those headlight:
