Measure it while holding the 'top' vertical and the float just touching the needle valve. I use the shank end of a 10mm drill bit for a gauge. _________________ Daily driver: '69 Baja owned 44 yrs - Plan B: '81 Rabbit Diesel LS Deluxe - Plan C: '72 Ghia

just want to make sure I got this right, hold the top vertical (up and down),, and push the float until it just touches the needle, not hold it horizontal and let the weight of the float rest against the needle? |

Actually you don't have to push or touch the float. Hold the 'top' of the carb. so the float hinge is up. Move the 'top' back and forth a little so the float touches the needle valve and not touching. At the right amount of tilt where it just touches the needle valve, the part of the float, at the bottom, should be 10 mm from the 'top' of the carb. _________________ Daily driver: '69 Baja owned 44 yrs - Plan B: '81 Rabbit Diesel LS Deluxe - Plan C: '72 Ghia

Yes hold the float verticle (ie like the door hinges in your car) then swing the float until it just touches the needle but does not compress the spring (I use a metric allen wrench of the correct size to gap it correctly). |
