Hoop and key parts survived, what looks like junk in the photos is the key to moving forward. Got water back, gas, and electricity today is ok besides the aftershocks. I am not a very good social media guy, and just wanted to say thanks to all of you here. I want to apologies to Everett, and everyone else bothered, for putting non VW related photos, I understand this is not the place for stuff like that. I really just did not know how to address all of you who support this build, called to help, and looked out to see we were ok. So moving forward we will get into the garage sort the tools and get back to work, next post will be of work. Thank you again from my entire family to all of you.

Good to hear your Dad is doing well. Glad, the build is moving forward. You probably don't know how many us get our inspiration from seeing your work. The way you care about your family, you can tell your Dad raised you right. Blessings on your family. |

Great news your dad is ok and the Ghia came through unscathed, those photos of the sidewalk are pretty scary.
As a slight aside I just came in from my garage where I used your seat rail cross member measurements to fabricate mine, they look pretty good for a rushed job, now I just need KiwiGhia68 (Chris) to take it to the garage he's currently working in and fold them for me as a small bench vice won't cut it.
Thanks again for all your help, no wonder the community wants to help you out, your a good bugger (as we say down under) _________________ Rusty 61 RHD Karmann Ghia Coupe - Resto in progress....slowly

Construction of the 1500cc Okrasa motor had started. It's been a long month repairing my garage from the quake. Looking forward to watching Mr. O build this beauty. _________________ If you take time to do it, do it right and don't be so damn cheap.....🤙🏻

Started template remake for rear seat area panels. Slow work but fun making patterns, measuring, and figuring where bends and beads will go. Hope to have all pieces transferred to steel, and start fab work by weekend. Glad to be able to be working in garage again.

Wish I had the space for a Pullmax. I am just going to use my bead roller, flat profile bead(square), pre strech with the English wheel. Maybe in a year or two when/if I open a shop we can collaborate Appriciate the support Dan, respect you and your work a lot.
For now
One more down, 3 more to go. Then fine tune and transfer to steel. _________________ If you take time to do it, do it right and don't be so damn cheap.....🤙🏻

|
|
Today got the transfer templates of rear seat area all finished. Making tempates is not very difficult to do, and with some patients, simple tools and measuring, is something all can do. There is many ways to do it, none are wrong if the template achieved is able to remake the repar section or part. I use tracing paper, poster board, tape, and card stock. The key is measuring, measuring, and re checking all flange distances. After making one side if the opposite side is needed here is a trick I have learned. Prepare metal surface for transfer then at the intersections of lines on template if you use a snap punch, it will pierce through the poster board and leave a detent on the metal. This detent will not only help you find reference points when scribing template lines into metal, but if you flip the template over and re snap the punch through existing holes, you now have a very easy way to scribe a mirror image of the part being made. The blue spray is lay out die, dy chem, and goes by other names as well. Hope this helps you all make the parts you can't find. If any one needs these templates PM me I will be happy to send you a photo copy.
