I don't know why the pictures are sideways, I guess mostly cause I'm a computer idiot. They are dark cause it is stored in a warehouse at work. I hate not having it at home, but the shop is too crowded and I really don't like leaving it outside. I took the picture of the tire just to show how old the thing is. |

Hello Red Rail,
That is cool, keeping buggies going for the next generations is what all volks folks are here for.
I am sure your Grandpa would really enjoy working on it.
There are a few Empi Sportsterish around and the fact you had a family member start and you continue is awesome.
The picture when you first load on to your computer should give you an option to rotate it before you upload onto the forum.
Get some air in them tires and take outside for some pics.
Good Luck,
Tony

My Sportster is in the process of being restored. It is drivable, but still needs a few things...horn, speedometer, gas gauge, etc. It sat for a long time before I bought it, so I need to clean out the gas tank...kind of a problem because the flanges that hold it down are welded in place, and it's over 100 degrees outside right now. When it cools off, I'll get crackin". The car is a hoot to drive! Pictures are in the gallery because I can't figger out how to move them to the forum. Paint is a color match to Rustoleum "Maui Blue". |

I am trying to buy one right now. I found it in a junk yard, and found out that the guy that owns it is really connected to his cars. I hope I can persuade him, but I'm not sure. I'll send pics when I can get them. Hopefully soon |

The blue one is earlier than the red one. They both appear to be factory kits. The blue one has the lollipop style windshield hinges with the original knobs. It also still has its hood mounted spare and possibly the bows for a convertible top.
The red one has the later style offset hinge with the pivot point forward of the windshield frame. It also has a short windscreen which looks pretty cute. |

No, I don't own them and have no connection with them. I believe I may have seen the red one at Topaz Lake last year. I think they're probably worth the same as a similar fiberglass bodied buggy.
I believe some Sportsters have factory serial numbers stamped on the body. If they do, they're probably worth more than one that doesn't have one.

That is awesome! We got some old and new Empi owners, if I was not knee deep in projects I would get another to keep my Sporty company.
