I am a new Sportster owner of an old one. I am just gathering information. The question of the day is the location of the EMPI production stamping. If it is a factory built car where is the production number? Windows "blah blah" has updated and now photos are difficult to post. I am going to have an eight year fix it. Then I will post the images |

I believe it was on a plate riveted to the top rear of the tunnel.

Thanks. I can see where the tag was. There are now just 2 spots of weld. |

I'm a little confused by the picture I found and posted. Looking at the picture the EMPI number tag looks like it should be where the shift coupling access cover normally is. Where are your spots of weld in relation to the access cover? |

I should have gone out and checked. I just did. The tag if, it existed, was pop riveted and would have covered the chassis number on the car that I have. Do you think that this car was part of the original production? I will do the pictures tomorrow. |

That it probably had a tag there is a good indication but, lets see what it looks like. |

I just posted pictures in the Gallery of my new Empi Sportster. I am trying to identify the car. Real Empi or Kit or DIY? |

Hello AVW1973,
Most Empi sportster came in in three flavors, 1) Complete running car,2) body made and you would have to find frame, 3) complete summer project with plans and a lot of vision.
If the body shape is correct then you got yourself an Empi Sportster.
Not to be confused for a Burro or Toad.
I will check your images you uploaded. Try to post it on the topic. If you need more help create new topic.
Thanks.

avw1973,
From the pictures you loaded on your gallery, I can say it is a Empi Sportster.
Fenders, body and rivets would verify.
I would check the steering wheel if it is one of the Empi syle of wheels.
Good Luck! Don't forget to post Pic! |

Tony; Thanks for the help. It would be best to post images directly to this topic. I will have an eight year show me how,
My plans are to remove fenders and other removable pieces and have everything media (not sand) blasted. I have a 1200 and a "big bore" kit and will put this together. My goal is as original as possible. i do have an old magazine article as a guide.

I's say that as sure as you could possibly be with the original tag having been removed, that's a genuine Empi made Sportster. |

Ok I now own a 48 inch finger brake , I have the plans for the sportster
The plans/ pictures don't really tell me how to make the front fender so looking for help . Pictures and discription on how to bend the sheet metal
I know the edge will have a 1 inch fold over , but the overall sheet layout would help . The plans call for 20 gauge steel and my bender is rated for 16 so I know it will handle the project , I have a plasma cutter so once I have the sheet layout I will start . Is there someone out there that can draw this for me ? , I need passinger front fender |
