I just aquired a complete shell with all the trim and bumpers were painted black the car is red and is a 1974. The Title has "LOVE BUG" as the model. I looked at the SEBeetles site and it has the correct VIN # for this SE.

I am just trying to gauge interest, I searched the forums as well as the gallery and found nothing.
Just wondering how rare this thing is. I have the Original engine as well.

Thanks for any leads.

Pretty neat! As always when someone buys a car; post some photos!

Far as one being rare, for now - they aren't exactly impossible to find. but as time goes on they are getting somewhat harder to find as opposed to an average regular bug. All parts it comes with is a plus!

There are several samba members who own the Revenna green version, such as Bill E. and George Evans ..

Of the colors on Lovebugs, it seems that the green color was more prevailiant on those models than the red.

They are fairly rare in my opinion. I have only seen two in person and neither was red. I'm curious as to why you are gauging interest. Are you planning to flip it, or find others with the same model?

If you are planning to sell it, the more original it is, the more desirable it will be (as far as number of people interested).

If you're planning to keep it, why not start a Love Bug site of your own? There is a Last Edition site that could be a template. It also distinguishes the 1978 version made in Emden for the UK versus the last of the Mexicans in 2003. You would probably have to do the same or you will be infiltrated with Herbie Wannabees.

Your car is cool.

Thanks for all the feed back everyone!
I just do not know what I am going to do with it...
I have:
a 1970 standard beetle,
a 1971 Japanese RHD 1302,
and a 1972 Automatic Stickshift beetle,
These are the tagged, insured drivers.
I also have a 1968 Westfalia (for sale) that is a project that I'll get to if it doesn't sale.
I really do not need another beetle, but I could put this thing together and back on the road in my spare time over the next year or so. I just do not really have the space for another beetle in the fleet.
I plan on getting it home and cleaning it up, acertain what is needed, polish the body get some photos and post them here.

I would have just parted it out, that was the original plan since I do not like elephant tail lights, but the fact that it is kinda rare and therefore unique is interesting me. (as you can see by the aforementioned list, I am usually the only guy at the car show in an automatic beetle or a RHD Jap bug...) so uniqueness is a big draw in a car that they made 25 million or so of.
I'll get some photos of the car up soon.
Thanks for all the encouragement.
KC

I have a ravenna green Love Bug... it's in pretty terrible condition. I kept it just because of the unique color, but I'm not sure if she'll ever see the road again.

There's a phoenix red one in Belleville I've seen a few times (About 45 minutes from where I live), I'd really like to talk to the owner.

The emblem:

Bruce, how long have you had yours? Looks like a magnificent survivor except for the rear snow tires! Flat black vent window trim! Cool

Will you even bother driving it with its stock engine, or do you have a solid 2-liter up your sleeve for it?

Bought it in the early 90s with 15,700 miles on the clock. Backed up with records. That's the original paint. Don't worry about the snow tire, I have the original wheel and tire (I just have to get the super slow leak fixed)

I've been undecided about driving it. To get another car into that shape would cost just about what this car is worth, so why would anyone bother?

BTW, yes, I do have a 2 liter and Berg 5 I could slide in there. A set of dropped spindles and discs, studded for P5, then a set of Fuchs and it's ready to roll......

No, as far as I can see it's its just a regular '74. The "love bug" should have an emblem on the glove box. Also, the molding around the car should be black and not polished aluminum along with the headlight rings (not chrome). The fender beading is also supposed to be black like the other one on this page... :-/ sorry, but it still looks really nice.

Just bounce the VIN off of the range in the upper right on this page.

It's the real deal. Phoenix red was only available as a Love Bug in the USA.

I've seen a LOT of original Love Bug cars over the years and not one single car had the emblem. The emblem was dealer installed, and most dealers didn't bother.

All those shiny bits are bolt ons. Shouldn't be too hard to put that car back to the way it should be.

Love Bugs had the sport style wheels, and houndstooth cloth interior. Only in a standard Beetle.
