I ordered one of the cb performance maxi 2 oil pump/ filters but am wondering if they actually come with a oil filter or do I need to go buy one seperate. And if so what filter do they use.

I have 2 that work. One from Cip1 that is a standard size filter - Bosch 0 451 103 033, and one that I got from Mid America that is a short filter Bosch 72161.

Make sure the filter you use has an internal bypass valve so the engine gets full flow when the oil is cold. Napa/Wix PN 1374 fits well and has a bypass. I've used them for a long time.

Good Luck!

Mine's an old CB Maxi2, states Claude's Buggies on it, on my 1835. I've used a Fram PH16 with it for about 30 years.

No, not the same filter cartridge, I change that every oil change.

Open the box when it arrives, go to parts store if you need to.

Or buy a filter in advance, keep it for future oil change, or return the filter if necessary. There must be a parts store you pass on your daily travels.

I just bought another Maxi2 last week. None of them have come with a filter, they are plastic shrink wrapped to a cardboard backing.
I don't think they even recommend a filter number, either.
Have fun!

Nonsense, they sell the correct filter right on their web site. Scroll to the bottom of the page, first item on the list. Call CB and ask what the filter number is.

http://cbperformance.com/catalog.asp?ProductID=195

I believe it's the filter for a BMW 2002. I bought several filters from CB just recently, all were Mahle brand, good quality. Good price too at $5.95/ea.

I would love to see some pics of your pump/filter combos. I have contemplated getting a pump, but it looks like you would have to cut the engine tin to get it in. A pic would help me envision one on my car.

No cutting required. CB Maxi2 fits under stock tin and stock muffler. Plug and play, no modifications required.

I didn't cut any engine tin. Maxi2, from Claude's Buggies (CB).

Not a Maxi, but should give you an idea.

Dents in pulley tin are what I had to modify to clear the pump, studs and nuts.

With my crappy BZ muffler, that's going away.

I stand corrected on the filter number.

I did have to make a small notch about 1"x2" in the "under pulley tin" on two of my engines because it hits the top of the pump. You also have to watch exhaust clearance, too, as it will not clear all exhaust systems.

Good Luck!

Mine was so long ago that I can't remember if I had to dimple any tin metal. If I did, it wasn't memorable...

Got my Maxi Filter finally installed and a big THANKS to Cusser for his help with the pics and etc. I ground some of the fins off that were hitting the tin and did some tin work also but I got it done and it works great.
